Is It OK To Eat Green Potatoes?

Fry them, saute them, or turn them into wedges; potato is the most loved vegetable of all time. But is it ok to eat green potatoes? Well, the answer is not as simple as one might think.  Nutritionists generally recommend not consuming green potatoes as they have negative health impacts. Of course, there are some considerations if someone is willing to proceed with their decision.  If you want to delve deeper into the topic and know the potential side effects of eating green potatoes, check out this guide. It answers most of your questions and also provides valuable suggestions.  So, without further ado, let’s quickly get started! What Are The Reasons Behind A Potatoe Turning Green? As many might not know, the greening of potatoes is quite natural. When these vegetables remain exposed to light, the skin cells in potatoes produce chlorophyll.  Furthermore, this chlorophyll leads the potato peel to turn gurn and ready to sprout. Continuous light exposure activates the skin cells and produces a glycoalkaloid toxin called solanine, which tastes bitter.  In this process, chaconine, another toxin, is also found. highlights how two toxins in a fruit or vegetable can not only cause abdominal pain but also have other symptoms.  It’s easy to say if a dark-colored potato is turning green by peeling off its skin and finding green patches inside. But what if someone consumes a potato with a green tinge? Would that be equally toxic? Not necessarily because potatoes having a green tinge are easily removable by peeling off their skin. It’s when the vegetable starts tasting bitter that you need to rethink things.  Potatoes that taste sour or bitter contain higher levels of toxins and shouldn’t be consumed at all! Hence, it’s better to discard them altogether.  Should You Throw All Green Potatoes At Home? Well, it somehow got easy to answer, “is it ok to eat green potatoes?” because we know it’s not. According to the USDA, you need not dump all your potatoes at once, provided you know how to cook them efficiently.  Now, that might be a challenge for some! All you have to do is peel the shoots, skins, and anything that looks green. That’s exactly where the solanine concentration takes place. Don’t mind peeling off the skin aggressively and removing every small trace of it.  Unline bacteria such as salmonella and E.coli, chaconine, and solanine cannot be destroyed by cooking. You might lose some alkaloids while boiling toxic potatoes, but who can take a chance? Well, solanine is more bitter than others and is quite easy to build up in the vegetable. Potatoes might be a bit alkaloid in flavor, but they cannot be too bitter when consumed.  Side Effects Of Consuming Green Potatoes Solanine, the greening element in potatoes, usually doesn’t hurt humans if the quantity remains considerable. However, if someone consumes 20 pounds of green potatoes at regular intervals, they are likely to fall sick.  Some of the most common symptoms of solanine poisoning are: Bloating Chest pain Headache Diarrhea Pain in the abdomen or stomach Body temperature falling beyond normal Vomiting Slow breathing Slow pulse rate If a person finds him/her in a difficult situation after consuming green potatoes, they must immediately seek medical attention.  While a few individuals might not stop eating this bitter-tasting potato, some of them avoid it. From the green-colored skin to sprouted potatoes, they try to keep gastrointestinal issues at bay.  So, is it ok to eat green potatoes under certain conditions? It actually depends on a person’s immunity, but the general suggestion is always a no! In some people, the symptoms might start showing up within a few hours, whereas others might not feel anything at all.  What Amounts Of Solanine Is Acceptable? A lot of countries have already banned the sale of potatoes having excessive levels of solanine in them, along with other glycoalkaloids. The FDA restricts the intake of 200-250 mg of glycoalkaloids per kg of raw green potato.  On the other hand, 91 to 113 mg per pound of the vegetable isn’t acceptable either. Canada exercises a similar 200mg/kg limit, but that’s not the case in most European countries.  Some places might store potatoes in great conditions, yet they still get ruined or “green.” Make sure you are limiting consumption in dire circumstances.  The Toxic Dose Of Solanine How can we decide what’s a toxic dose of solanine? Well, the FDA has shared something important for consumers to decide what quantity of solanine they should ingest.  As per the Missouri Poison Center, there is a low risk if the quantity remains between 0.5 to 1 mg per lb. People can easily recover at home if they have developed some side effects of solanine. On the flip side, extreme solanine poisoning cases have caused severe symptoms and, eventually, death. However, these cases might be incredibly rare, so proper care is required.  Does Boiling Or Peeling Green Potatoes Make Any Difference?  Solanine is the highest in the peel of potatoes. Some studies also suggest that peeling might reduce the poisonous content by 25-75%. Make sure to also remove sprouts or green flesh areas to make a difference.  Trimmed and peeled potatoes still contain ample toxins that can make a person sick. Hence, if the green hues look darker than before, it might represent that the solanine concentration is doubled.  Cooking the vegetable in any form- baking, frying, or microwaving- might reduce the toxin level to some extent. Since the flavor is very unusual, one might feel a burning sensation in the mouth and even throat.  If the potato you just brought home has a few green spots, simply peel the portion. It’s best if you throw the potatoes that keep tasting bitter even after boiling or cooking.  Ways To Avoid Potatoes From Becoming Green So, is it ok to eat green potatoes? If not, how do you store them efficiently? I know this is a major concern for most of my readers. Well, don’t worry, as we have got you covered.  The U.S. Agriculture Department has pointed out how to store potatoes to avoid getting them green:  Keep them in a basement or cellar where it’s a bit dark and cooler than other places. Temperature must remain between 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit. Store them away from appliances that do not dispense heat, like a refrigerator.  If you’re someone growing potatoes at home, try hilling or storing soil around the potato plant. This will keep its tubers away from direct heat and sunlight. Consequently, this will allow potatoes to grow very close to the soil’s surface, and they will not turn green.  Storing potatoes directly into the freezer isn’t too wise because the temperature becomes too cold. A few studies have suggested how solanine levels are impacted by the temperature at which potatoes are stored.  Those who do not have a cool place to store potatoes must buy only the necessary quantity. Restock them once they go out of stock.  What To Do With A Green Potato? It is usually wise to tackle green potatoes carefully. We all know how rotten fruit or vegetables can spread contaminants to the rest of them. As I mentioned before, if there are small portions of greening in the potatoes, simply peel or chop them off.  But what if things don’t end there? The next smart thing to do is throw away the tuber. Dieticians suggest never consuming tubers that have turned green as they can impact health severely. So stick to the skin, always! You can easily consume the rest of the vegetables in the most delectable way possible. After all, potatoes are everybody’s favorite. From baking them to frying, not a single person hates these delectable buddies.  As a gardener, you can plant seed tubers 4-6 inches deep into the ground to avoid any sort of greening. Some also work on eliminating exposure to artificial light right after storing or harvesting.  Concluding Words To end up, it might be safe to say that the decision depends entirely on your hands. Is it ok to eat green potatoes or not- this question, or rather a debate, is a never-ending one.  But yes, fruits and vegetables are better to consume with safe considerations. And that’s exactly the case with green or solanine-rich potatoes. Make sure to keep this potentially toxic vegetable away from your dining table.  If you are not into wasting food and stuff, plant these potatoes in your garden and grow new potato plants. That’s a topic of discussion for some other day! Continue Reading: Is It Ok To Eat Oatmeal Every Day? How Safe Are The EMFs Emitted By Your Smartphone?

The modern era is seeing a rapid boom in the expansion of electronic devices. This has raised concerns about the health impact of electromagnetic fields. Specifically the emission of electromagnetic radiation by our mobile devices. The digital era of human life is seeing their constant use, making it quite difficult to escape EMFs exposure and its health risks.  As per experts, both medical and non-medical, it is a cause of concern as several health risks are associated with the ceaseless use of smartphones.  The following article investigates the safety level of smartphone radiation and the impact of EMFs.  Understanding EMFs from Smartphones You might not be aware that your electronic devices are surrounded with electromagnetic fields. So when you are using your smartphone then you are exposed to areas of energy that are filled with electrical and magnetic forces that influence our body’s functioning. This is known as EMFs exposure. The World Health Organization classifies low-frequency EMFs as possibly carcinogenic for our body. This can lead to an increase in glioma, which is a type of brain cancer that is associated with usage of wireless phones.  But this classification needs more research to verify these findings about EMFs exposure.  Generally smartphones emit radiofrequency radiation (RF), during transmission of information over networks. These RF radiations are a type of EMF. The radiation level depends on networks your smartphone uses like 3G, 4G, and LTE networks. RF radiation level also depends on your signal strength and the distance you are from the signal tower. Potential Health Risks of Smartphone EMFs There can never be smoke without fire, so there must be some truth to World Health Organization classification of EMFs exposure leading to increase in carcinogenic diseases. So, let’s see what health risks are associated with EMFs exposure.  Cancer In the debate whether electromagnetic fields (EMFs) cause cancer due to prolonged exposure to smartphones or other electronic devices, let’s analyze some studies regarding this issue.  Several scientists are studying the effects of EMFs exposure on our body and its possible link to the rise in cancer. But no definite conclusion has been found in this topic.  Just like how the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organization, classified RF radiation as "possibly carcinogenic to humans." Here the term ‘possible’ shows not a definite classification to link both these factors together. Again, several other scientists have not found any significant evidence of a possible link between smartphone usage and cancer.  Other Health Concerns There are several health issues that are ‘potentially’ rising because of EMF exposure. These health issues are listed below. Headaches Sleep disturbances Cognitive disruption Still the conclusion of the cause of these health problems cannot be directly linked to EMFs exposure due to no definite proof. You cannot make a claim without proper proof to prove your claim. Your argument needs to have definite methodologies that proves your claim. Reproductive Effects Another potential effect of smartphone EMFs exposure researchers have explored is on our reproductive health.  As per some studies when you are exposed to radiofrequency radiation it can lead to decreased sperm motility in males. Therefore the sperm’s viability also decreases. In females, EMFs exposure can decrease female fertility. You might have noticed that in both of these studies the term ‘can’ has been used. This term highlights the claims might not be definite. The Emerging Concerns about 5G Technology Presently a new health concern regarding EMFs exposure has come to the forefront due to the introduction of 5G. The 5G network is the next generation of wireless technology that offers high connectivity in smartphones and tablets. You might be curious as to how the 5G network can create a new health concern for us? It's due to the power antennas used in transmitting information through 5G networks. You see these antennas expose us to even higher frequencies than 3G or 4G networks.  With higher frequencies you will be able to enjoy high speed data and get better connectivity in your smartphone. This is why 5G is becoming popular among netizens while scientists are worried about the effects of these high frequencies. Incorporating these new technologies prompts discussions about the possible dangers of 5g, as the denser networks require more antennas, thus potentially increasing EMFs exposure for you. Mitigating the Risks: Best Practices for Smartphone Use Are you worried that these claims of the World Health Organization might have some truth? Then there are some things you can do to avoid health problems related to high exposure to electromotive force. You can adapt to the best practices for smartphone use by adhering to these recommended safety guidelines. When you adjust your way of interacting with electronic devices then you can significantly reduce your exposure to harmful electromagnetic fields. Thus ensuring your safety. You also utilize these electronic devices safely in your daily lives. Listed below are the best practices for smartphone use: Regulatory Standards and Safety Limits You cannot expect a claim made by the World Health Organization regarding EMFs exposure to be disregarded by other regulatory organizations. So in response to these health issues regarding the EMF exposure resulted in some changes in the guidelines. The U.S. FFC or the Federal Communications Commission have set limits on smartphone RF radiation. As per these guidelines a limit has been set in the sale of smartphones that need to follow a safe level of EMFs exposure. Practical Steps to Reduce Exposure Users can take several practical measures to minimize their exposure to EMFs from smartphones. These include: Use any hands-free device such as headphones or Bluetooth headsets, which helps increase the distance between the smartphone and your body. You can limit the duration of your calls and try to send texts or use other forms of communication that do not require the phone to be held close to the head. If you are traveling in any high-speed vehicles like a car, bus or train, you can avoid using smartphones. As the strength of the signal is weak as you are traveling at high speed. These activities cause phones to emit more RF radiation as they attempt to connect to new cell towers. The Role of Further Research The existing research on the health implications of electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure from smartphones offers valuable insights but still needs to be more conclusive, signaling the need for further investigation.  Scientists universally acknowledged the importance of additional research to draw definitive conclusions. Particularly critical are long-term studies that monitor individuals over extended periods.  Such studies are crucial for a more comprehensive understanding of the effects of chronic exposure to radiofrequency (RF) radiation. These longitudinal studies would help identify potential delayed or cumulative health effects, providing a clearer picture of the risks associated with routine smartphone use. Conclusion The safety of EMFs emitted by smartphones is a complex, ongoing topic in public health discourse. While the evidence of serious health risks is inconclusive, it is prudent for you to adopt measures that limit your exposure to these fields.  As technology advances, so must your understanding of its implications on health, emphasizing the need for continued research and updated regulatory standards to protect public health. Is It OK To Eat Watermelon Seeds

Being a child, our biggest fear was to swallow the seeds of fruits, especially a fruit that’s big as a watermelon. We always thought we would end up having a watermelon grown inside our tummy.  But it’s all a myth! There is no potential harm in eating watermelon seeds. In fact, most people consume them for different reasons. Hence, there are no more worries about consuming it mistakenly.  Let’s dive deeper into the article and discover- “is it ok to eat watermelon seeds.” I have also listed other queries about watermelon seeds, as well. So sit back and relax as we unfurl a few essential details about it.  Different Types Of Watermelon Seeds Available What’s the first thing you see after cutting a fresh, pulpy watermelon brought from the market? The seeds, right? Only after you’re done savoring the reddish treat, you're going to get afterward.  There are basically two types of seeds found inside the fruit- one is black, and the other one is white in color. But how are they different? Black seeds inside the watermelon are mature and fertile in nature. This simply indicates that you can plant them and later have a watermelon plant. But that’s not the case with their white counterparts.  White seeds in watermelon are immature in nature and have time to become fertile. On planting them, they cannot become a plant as the sprout is yet to be developed. Hence, these seeds appear translucent and thinner.  While consuming the fruit, if you accidentally consume the white seeds- it is entirely harmless. But even if you are having a black one, there’s no potential harm- other than it getting stuck in your windpipe.  Is It OK To Eat Watermelon Seeds? Potential Risks Of Doing So! We know that eating a watermelon seed will not grow a plant inside your belly, no matter how much you water it. But there are a few concerns regarding its consumption.  Based on the size of the seed, it can create the risk of choking in younger kids as the size of their windpipe is too narrow. Due to the hard nature of the seed, it cannot be brought down by water or other liquids. Hence, it’s best not to consume them at all! Additionally, consuming these seeds every day might result in constipation for people who cannot take up iron and fiber. If you are craving to snack on watermelon seeds, there are other effective alternatives as well.  Since watermelon seeds are a natural source of nutrients like folate, niacin, and iron, many patients are recommended to consume them. However, be mindful about the portion and the kinds of food you are having in combination with these seeds.  Some Health Benefits Of Watermelon Seeds Watermelon seeds, as I said already, are packed with nutrients and keep the tummy full for a long time. This is why a lot of people love chewing it. But there are other health benefits of eating it, too. 1. Proteins On, Calories Off That’s the number one priority for these seeds, which are nutrient-dense yet low in calories. Serving dry watermelon seeds in a single ounce itself serves 158 calories and 8 grams of protein.  On the other hand, the same quantity of pecans offers 196 calories and just 3 grams of protein. Since protein is the source of keeping the tummy full, you can have watermelon seeds as an afternoon snack. Not more than that! 2. Full of Unsaturated Fats Watermelon seeds consist of healthy fats and a lot of them! If a single ounce provides the goodness of 2 gms of monounsaturated fatty acids. However, polyunsaturated fatty acids are available upto 8 gms.  The U.S.A. Heart Association recommends people consume a moderate quantity of unsaturated fats every day. Not only do they reduce the levels of triglycerides in the blood, but they also keep the body's cholesterol level low.  The human body isn’t competent enough to produce unsaturated fats by itself. Hence, getting them through our diets might be helpful.  3. Packed With The Goodness Of Magnesium A similar portion of watermelon seeds contains more than 140 milligrams of magnesium. It is the same mineral needed for nerve and muscle function.  The human body requires magnesium to keep blood sugar levels and blood pressure in check.  Hence, the NIH National Institutes of Health suggests the consumption of 420 mg of magnesium is ideal for an adult man. An adult woman can also have watermelon seeds as her body needs 320 mg of magnesium every day.  4. Full of Iron  Last but not least, watermelon seeds provide a great source of iron. You will get at least 2 mg of iron in a single-ounce serving of watermelon seeds. The former is an essential component found in hemoglobin.  Hemoglobin is found in blood and is basically a red blood cell protein that brings oxygen to tissues and lungs. So, those asking- “is it ok to eat watermelon seeds,” the answer is simply yes! An adult man, as recommended by the NIH, must ingest 8 mg of iron every day, whereas an adult woman should consume at least 18 mgs. Since women are more prone to iron deficiency, they need more iron content in their bodies. Pits And Seeds You Should Not Consume It might be a little relief to know that watermelon seeds aren’t a danger when consumed. Sadly, that’s not the case with all seeds and pits found in veggies and fruits. Here’s why: Pits and seeds that can be consumed safely are: Pomegranate seeds Dragonfruit seeds Cucumber seeds However, the following are those that should not be consumed at all: Apple or Apricot Seeds  One of the first ones on the list of harmful seeds is those belonging to the Rosaceae family of fruits. Starting from peaches to apples, cherries, apricots, pears, peaches, and even plums. Seeds of these fruits are not safe to consume.  All these fruits contain enormous amounts of amygdalin. When they are crushed, they become poisonous as hydrogen cyanide. Thus, consuming them in a significant amount might result in confusion, anxiety, dizziness, and even low blood pressure.  A few of them can escalate to coma, paralysis, and even death if a human ingests it too much.  Castor Bean Seeds  Castor oil is produced with the help of castor seeds because the unhulled bean consists of ricin, a lethal substance. Ricin, when consumed, imposes enormous risk once it enters the cell.  It stops producing protein that is important for their usual function. Hence, Ricin leads to the death of the cell, eventually risking human health. Ingesting whole unhulled castor beans produces less risk, but you’ll still require medical attention. If you accidentally consume these seeds, the immediate side effects are nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and dehydration. Finally, it culminates into pancreas damage, seizure, kidney and liver damage, etc.  Raw Kidney Beans If you wonder- is it ok to eat watermelon seeds, at least they’re better than raw kidney beans. Kidney beans, when cooked, are excellent protein sources, but the raw ones are very toxic.  Kidney beans, just like legumes, are rich in phytohaemagglutinin. If their quantities increase, raw kidney beans can harm humans. In the next 2-3 hours after eating them, you will experience diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, and nausea.  It’s best if you soak these beans for at least 5 hours and boil them. Either consume boiled kidney beans or cook them overall.  Lychee Seeds This Asian fruit is very famous and loved by people. But did you know that their seeds are very harmful to humans? The ripe fruit is extremely nutritious and the sweet juice in them makes them super delicious.  However, these seeds are toxic as they consist of MCPA or methylene cyclopropyl-alanine. This toxin is associated with hypoglycemic encephalopathy that results in low blood sugar.  Hypoglycemic encephalopathy causes people to die if the consumer is fasting or malnourished. However, the consumption of lychee is not too common due to its size. But to stay safe, it is better not to eat unripe lychee.  Concluding Words If you want to eat watermelon seeds, make sure to dry or roast them for safe consumption. The overall question of “Is it ok to eat watermelon seeds?” isn’t incorrect.  But consuming something, even in the smallest quantity, should come with a few considerations. In this case, you need to stay away from seeds that have a direct impact on your health.  With that, here comes an end to this article. Thank you for reading till the end. Is It Ok To Workout When Sick?

Is it ok to workout when sick? What would be your answer when someone asked you this? What’s your perception about exercising when the body temperature has been twirling? I don’t know about you, but my personal experience says working out isn’t too ideal when you are profusely sick.  But then, what about regular exercisers? What would they do during illness that can keep their health in check? So many questions, one article. You are going to find some amazing hidden truth here. But for that, you need to keep reading it till the end.  Sickness and Workout: What’s The Connection? Exercise, a regular indulgence and a tremendous deal of sweating that keeps the body healthy. Working out daily not only reduces the risk of chronic diseases but also boosts the immune system.  But that’s not what we are concerned about here. It’s about exercising when the body isn’t as healthy as usual days.  During sickness, we primarily aim at speedy recovery and later, exercising and stuff. Hence, proved it is not important to workout in sickness, but you can, provided you follow the precautions.  Under What Conditions Is It OK to Workout When Sick? It’s not completely safe and harmless to exercise during sickness because more sweat will heat your body more. But in some conditions, you can indulge in medium exercising. Check them out here: Mild Cold One catches a mild cold when one's throat and nose become prone to viral infections. The symptoms of colds vary from one person to another.  While one might experience a stuffy nose and headache, others might constantly sneeze. In these situations, you can indulge in workouts, but make sure they aren’t too tedious.  If you feel a lack of energy while practicing your normal exercising routine, consider opting for less strenuous activities. You might also try reducing the workout duration.  If you go to the gym to exercise, make sure you do not spread germs to others. Take necessary precautions whenever required.  Stuffy Nose Who hasn’t gone through an uncomfortable stuffy nose? Not only is it a sign of a productive cough, but it might also resemble chest congestion in some cases.  Hence, if you are dealing with a stuffy nose, it’s best to skip your exercise routine completely. Feeling a congested nose temporarily might be ok, but not completely.  Make sure you try some exercises take can keep your nasal passages open and promote better breathing. It’s important that you listen to what your body says when you’re not completely well.  What I do when I have a stuffy nose is go for brisk walks or small bike rides to keep myself active and without trouble.  Earache You might think, is it ok to workout when sick, especially during earache? Earaches are not typically common, but they bring sharp, burning pain to the ears. This often leaves a person or a child in pain, and the infection might make things worse. Ear pain might happen due to a tooth infection, pressure changes, sore throat, or sinus infection.  A few ear infections leave you completely out of balance, thus making your temperature high. In such cases, make sure you don’t indulge in weightlifting because your body isn’t ready to go through another pain. Instead, opt for light walking.  Instances When You Shouldn’t Exercise At All! Now that you know the cases of mild exercising, let’s have a look at times when you should not workout at all. These are mostly the times when our body is sick and not in a position to exercise:  Fever Yes, you got that right. Fever is the first instance when one should not exercise at all. I will tell you why! During a fever, the body temperature goes above its usual range and hovers around 98.6°F. The body goes through a lot of fever, like dehydration, muscle aches, weakness, and even appetite loss.  Exercising when feverish increases the risks of dehydration and eventually increases your body temperature.  Also, fever means less endurance and strength, which impairs coordination and precision. So, refrain from putting yourself in a position of getting injured and skipping exercising completely.  Productive Coughing Don’t even ask, “Is it ok to workout when sick?” if you frequently cough because it isn’t! Occasional cough is when the body responds normally to fluids or irritants in the windpipe.  However, constant coughing might be a warning sign of respiratory infections like flu, cold, and even pneumonia.  You don’t necessarily need to skip the gym for a dry, temporary cough, but if things exceed, take some rest.  Sporadic or dry cough has no impact on your ability to perform exercises or lift weights. Sadly, that’s not the case with productive coughing, as it brings sputum or phlegm up and might lead you to consult a doctor.  Hence, it’s better to fix your cough before you exercise because strenuous workouts and jogging might increase the symptoms.  Flu Conditions Who hasn’t heard of the contagious illness, Influenza, that ends up making the human respiratory system sore? Besides, it has other symptoms too, such as body aches, fatigue, congestion, and headache.  Flu can be both severe and mild, based on the level of infection. In severe cases, it ends up causing life-threatening diseases.  Not every person experiencing the flu will have a fever, but those who experience this might feel dehydrated, too. Hence, working out isn’t a great option in this case.  It’s debated whether people with flu should indulge in workouts or not. But honestly, it depends on their individual immune response.  Working Out With Care: Tips To Be Safe When You’re Sick Are you dealing with any of the above and yet choose to work out? Don’t worry because we aren’t simply saying no. Here are some tips for exercising while ill that might keep you away from potential health harm:  Keep Yourself Hydrated Who does not require hydration? Everybody needs it whether or not they are ill. But it becomes extremely significant to infuse liquids into your body when you are not too well.  At the time of healing, the human body uses extra fluid to remove toxins. Consequently, this leads to loss of fluid, extra sweating, and even a runny nose.  Hence, exercising when you are unwell might eventually lead to more sweat, heightened body temperature, and increased dehydration.  At this point, keep yourself dehydrated while working out. If you don’t feel like consuming water due to the metallic taste, opt for juices and other liquids.  Balance Your Electrolytes Apart from hydrating yourself, there’s also the need to replenish electrolyte salts in the body while working out. Sweat takes them away if you are both unwell and are exercising.  Even runny noses can end up using electrolytes. When you combine a sweaty workout, you are simply taking away all necessary electrolytes from the body, making it weaker.  Hence, consume liquids that have salty content in them. Coconut water, sports drinks, broth, and even miso soup can help restore electrolytes in the body while exercising.  Consume A Balanced Diet Food is the source of energy and in sickness, we need lots of healthy food. That will help us get going while we sweat profusely.  Along with exercising, make sure you consume a balanced diet full of all important nutrients. Fruits, vegetables, legumes, leafy greens- everything that would keep you healthy.  In such situations, indulge in light exercises that do not make you extra tired. It’s okay to let your blood flow get above the usual range, but only to the extent when things aren’t harmful to you.  Eat pulses, plant-based legumes, fiber, and calcium-based food as much as possible. You can say no to carbohydrates during this time.  Hear What Your Body Says Last but not least, it is important to listen to your body. If you feel exhausted just after a few minutes of workout, stop doing it. After all, one or two days of exercise won’t fetch you massive results.  Sickness is an alarm for the body to rest and withdraw temporarily from the normal routine. Don’t make it go through the same and end up getting sicker.  The geist is that avoiding the gym when someone is sick is the best thing to do. In this way, you are reducing the chances of infecting someone else. Also, you get the time to rest well.  Conclusion So, what do you think of this, “is it ok to workout when sick?”  Choosing to exercise or not is a personal matter, provided it doesn’t harm your mental and physical well-being.  It is equally significant to avoid lifting heavy objects or indulge in strenuous exercises. Those dealing with severe symptoms like heavy cough should consider going to a doctor before working out.  Having said that, here comes an end to this article. Is It OK To Drink Distilled Water

The 21st century might have endless good news for us, but health-wise, we are at risk. Over 7 million Americans fall sick every year from poor water quality. As such, there’s just one option- to drink distilled water for safety.  But what if I tell you that drinking distilled water all the time has its own cons? Bummer, right? This is exactly why I have brought this article “is it ok to drink distilled water” to you.  So, if distilled water runs in your family more than often, read this guide till the end. You might want to change your beliefs after reading this. Without further ado, let’s get started! What Is Water Distillation? Distilled water goes into purification through the distillation process. Water coming from natural sources, like regular taps, consists of multiple impurities. Minerals, harmful bacteria, pesticides- the list goes on.  The process of distillation helps remove these contaminants from the water by partial boiling and condensation. After boiling, the impurities are left behind. The leftover steam on cold surfaces condenses to become distilled water drops.  But then, how is it different from regular drinking water which has been boiled? Distilled Water Vs. Boiled Water: Where’s The Difference? Both distilled and boiled water undergo heating, but they aren’t the same. Boiled water means simply heating the water to its boiling point, while distilled water includes condensation.  The distillation process is incomplete without boiling. However, in order to make purified water, you have to separate impurities from it both by physical and mechanical processing.  But then, is it ok to drink distilled water? You might think! Distilled water might be too pure to drink, which is why most industries use it for industrial purposes. It does not contain crucial minerals like sodium, potassium, and calcium, which are growth generators for our body.  In the distillation process, three main steps are included. Firstly, the conversion of liquid into vapour from a mixture. Secondly, one has to condense the purified liquid. And finally, they have to collect the condensed liquid as distilled water.  Why Can’t You Drink Distilled Water? Steam distillation in condensed water might remove chemical impurities from it and make it soft. But at the same time, it removes necessary mineral deposits, too. Hence, the problem begins.  Here are some common reasons why you should never drink distilled water! It Is Acidic Both alkalinity and acidity of water are weighed in pH scales, which typically range between 1-14 range. pH value 7 is generally neutral. So, anything that measures between 1 and 6.9 on the pH scale is acidic in nature.  On the other hand, substances measuring between 7.1 and 14 are considered alkaline. Doctors and healthcare physicians recommend drinking slightly alkaline water owing to its health benefits.  Sadly, distilled water has a pH>7, which makes it acidic in nature. Now, acidic water isn’t ideal for drinking because as soon as it comes in contact with the air, it will absorb carbon dioxide. The more such water remains open in the air, the more CO2 accumulates, which is not at all suitable for the human body.  Absence Of Dissolved Minerals We talked about how distilled water removes all minerals from the water. This includes calcium, potassium, and beneficial electrolytes, which end up making the water neutral.  Ever since childhood, we have been taught how water nutrients, even in small quantities, help human health. Consequently, the deficiency of it will cause health problems.  One might feel dehydrated by regularly drinking distilled water. Electrolytes in water not only give us energy but also keep us hydrated for a long time. Secondly, prevails magnesium deficit fatigue, which causes weakness and spasms.  Those gulping distilled water too often suffer from headaches due to calcium deficiency. In severe cases, muscle cramps also take place within humans.  Lactic Acid Builds Up, Which Result In Aging Who doesn’t like aging? Honestly, nobody! But can we stop aging? Of course, no, as it is inevitable. But there are a few things that can slow down the rate of aging.  Do you want to know what? Stop drinking distilled water!  This particular group of water forms a layer of lactic acid, which causes an imbalance in the body. shares that free radicals refer to unstable atoms that damage cells and cause illness and aging.  Acidity creates free radicals, thus interrupting the natural flow of molecules in cells. Acidic water damages healthy cells, which is why it should be completely avoided.  Distilled Water Help To Produce Soft Drinks Soda isn’t something beneficial for our health. Every day, we get to hear scary news about the consumption of soft drinks.  There are so many risk factors surrounding it- diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, and even high blood pressure.  Soft drinks are generally made up of distilled water and carbohydrate-inducing factors. This is exactly why we don’t drink them every day, and the same remains true for distilled water, too! Alkaline Water Can Be Readily Substituted It is true that there are places where distilled water helps like in a medical setting. Places that need absolutely pure water (without any constituents) can take out the best of distilled water,  It is also beneficial for sterilizing equipment used in operations. But when it comes to drinking, we put our thumbs down! If you are habituated to drinking distilled water and cannot give it up easily, try alkaline water. They are rich in bioavailable minerals as well as therapeutic molecular hydrogen that promotes a healthy being.  In What Circumstances Is It OK To Drink Distilled Water? Drinking distilled water, really? You might be bubbled up with this question. But the good news is, in some cases, drinking this water might have its own set of benefits like: It cures Arthritis Drinking distilled water can cure arthritis, a few physicians argue. It washes out minerals and calcium deposited in joints, thus giving relief to patients.  Decreases the possibility of Heart Diseases A few epidemiological research points out how water hardness can result in cardiovascular diseases and heart attacks. Both the softness and hardness of water are checked by the mineral content of magnesium and calcium.  Thus, when distillation makes them apart, you get soft water which is partially safe to drink.  Low In Sodium The 13% low-sodium preferred population relies on distilled water only because it has less sodium content in it.  While tap water also contains sodium, the level is not as low as distilled water, So, your dietitian might suggest you drink distilled water if you want to maintain the sodium level content.  Less Occurrence Of Kidney Stones Kidney stones are nothing but hard mineral deposits that form in our kidneys. These stones are very painful when passed down and, in most cases, impossible to pass.  Drinking distilled water helps to avoid mineral build-up that results in kidney stone formation.  Saves You From Compromised Immunity Are you having a compromised immune system that makes you sick every now and then? Don’t wonder, “Is it ok to drink distilled water?” because it is, in this case.  Cryptosporidium is known for exacerbating illness which can be commonly found in drinking water.  However, distillation removes this from water, and reverse osmosis kills the virus. Thus, you get a solid immune system! Multiple Uses Of Distilled Water Apart From Drinking Owing to its 100% purity, distilled water gas has various applications. Some of them are in our daily lives, too. Check out its uses:  Cosmetic Products: Ingredients commonly found in cosmetic items have to be entirely pure and toxin-free. Well, guess what facilitates their production? Yes, you got it right. Distilled water acts as a solvent that helps to transfer the benefits of this product smoothly into the skin.  Medical Applications: Hospitals and clinics make use of distilled water for sterilizing medical instruments. Distilled water also helps to prepare patient food, clean wounds, and prevent infections within the facility.  Food Canning Procedure: Several food canning industries use distilled water to ensure the quality, taste, and color of the food intact. Added salts might alter the flavor, but distilled water has less sodium, which has zero impact on the taste.  Application In Lead-Acid Batteries: Car batteries are prone to getting heated very often. They need a coolant that can cool the engine and help the car to restart. Distilled water is mainly used for this purpose.  Concluding Words So, what’s your take on drinking distilled water? Will you continue drinking it, knowing that it might pose multiple health conditions? Trust me, the decision is tough.  But for your assistance, I can suggest one thing. You may drink distilled water, but only in a limited amount. Also, refrain from gulping it every day. Witness the change in your health when you drink both normal and distilled water.  As a health-conscious myself, I can never rely on something that might give me a temporary solution but causes permanent problems.  Having said that, here comes an end to this article! Is It OK To Take 8 Mg Of Tizanidine?

In medical terms, muscle relaxants are drugs that prevent and curb muscle tightness and spasms. Carisoprodol, Orphenadrine and Methocarbamol are a few common muscle relaxants.  However, Tizanidine is quite a popular name owing to its quick results. Usually, doctors prescribe this medicine when you have accidentally torn a muscle due to stroke, sclerosis, or spinal cord injuries.  The medicine is tolerable for many, but again, it has its own side effects. In order to mitigate the risks of heavy dosage, people keep asking- is it ok to take 8 mg of tizanidine or not.  What Are The Applications Of Tizanidine? For starters, Tizanidine is used to reduce spasticity which happens due to spinal or brain injury. The medicine functions by a central mechanism, although experts aren’t too sure about its use to decrease muscle tone.  A few doctors suggest that tizanidine use is necessary when presynaptic inhibition takes place in the nerves. The drug is quite helpful for polysynaptic pathways instead of monosynaptic spinal reflexes.  The primary use of this drug in relaxing muscles is to provide a damp effect to nerve impulses. Most of them arrive from spasming muscles that pass along the brain’s nerve fibers.  A special type of medicine called central alpha-2-adrenergic agonist belongs to the same class as Tizanidine. It is another strong muscle-relaxant that is less prescribed as compared to the latter.  Tizanidine’s Right Dosage The medicine comes in two different forms of tablets- 2 and 4 mg. There are three capsules weighing 2 mg, 4 mg, and 6 mg. So, the highest general dose a person should ingest is 6 mg.  So, is it ok to take 8 mg of tizanidine? Well, the answer is yes, but under the doctor’s supervision.  It’s not like people don’t consume 8 mg but only when they need relief from spasticity for a long time. In the case of an 8 mg of Tizanidine dose, the results last for 6 hours or more.  What’s the initial dosage like? Usually, people start with a much lower dose, like 2 or 4 mg, owing to its possible side effects. Doctors might increase or decrease the dose after observing the results for a few days.  People who don’t see a change after the medication have been prescribed the medicine for 4 days straight with a 4-mg dose. Hence, 8 mg is not something prescribed at once- it’s more like a process.  In severe situations, individuals can repeat the ingestion every 6-8 hours.  Things to watch out for: Make sure you do not take more than three doses. 36 mg of Tizanidine in a span of 24 hours isn’t good for the human body.  Doctors always suggest this medicine with caution. Patients dealing with kidney or liver impairments are generally not recommended Tizanidine because it reduces the clearance rate.  Prolonged use of the medicine can reduce liver and kidney functions.  Storing Tizanidine The Food and Drug Administration recommends storing the medicine at a 77℉ or 25℃ temperature. In fact, a temperature between 59–86°F or 16–30°C is fine but only for a restricted period.  Pharmacists must take care while dispensing the medicine in a container. Before buying, check whether the container has a child-resistant cap or not. Change it immediately if you find the drug without its cap.  A List Of Side-Effects One Might Encounter Unfortunately, Tizanidine comes with a number of side effects when not taken correctly. You are most likely to watch the following consequences if you are between 18 and 60 years old- Drowsiness, energy loss, dry mouth, dizziness, and reduced blood pressure.  It is also related to rare psychosis and hallucinations and has affected at least 3% of people.  Thirdly, Tizanidine dosage should be tweaked from person to person in accordance with the requirements.  It is not too suitable for those who trust spasticity to sustain their balance and posture.  In severe situations, Tizanidine can result in low blood pressure or head rush due to excessive sitting and getting up too fast. Thus, there are increased chances of falls.  The medicine can also have a negative impact on a person’s driving or machinery-operating capabilities. Hence, no alcohol is ideal! A few have also reported withdrawal symptoms like high blood pressure and rapid heartbeat when the dosage stops abruptly. Experts withdraw tizanidine slowly. For instance, they decrease the dosage to 4 mg and then 2 mg.  Older people should take very few quantities of tizanidine.  Finally, it also causes allergic reactions like urticaria and anaphylaxis.  Severe Side-Effects To Watch Out For- Tizanidine, when interacting with other medicines, including the hepatic enzymes metabolized like CYP1A2, can cause reactions. Furthermore, alcohol makes the symptoms worse by maximizing its peak concentration.  Doctors must monitor liver enzymes such as aminotransferase after beginning the treatment. The drug is not too recommended in combination for more than one month.  Multiple dosages of the medicine and its modification sometimes lead to clinically significant differences. One can find tremendous side effects or quick activity onset.  For those wondering about 8 mg of tizanidine, the ingestion is safe. You need to take the medicine every 6-8 hours. 16 mg is the maximum single dose in a single day- do not exceed it.  People under the age of 18 years should watch for early symptoms of tizanidine and must stop the dosage right away.  Those dealing with kidney disease must stay away from the drugs. Increase the dosage only if it’s extremely needed.  This Is The Right Way To Take Tizanidine… You might wonder, what’s the right way of taking medicine? Are you doing it wrong for so long? Absolutely not! It’s just that Tizanidine comes with some careful considerations.  For example, both the food and timing make a big difference. It is important to stop drug usage completely if the person no longer needs it.  Those wanting temporary relief must consume the medicine for shorter durations. If someone forgets their dose accidentally, it’s safe to skip it out and wait for the next dose.  You can safely curb the risks of overdose by not ingesting any more Tizanidine between 6-8 hours since it has complicated effects. Also, the impact differs from one person to another.  Tizanidine and Its Relation With Food The impact of food is complex on Tizanidine, and it differs from one individual to another. Food has the chance of increasing side effects if the person doesn’t keep an ample dosage gap. In various cases, there have been adverse events. It is vital to follow the doctor’s instructions properly and ask whether the medicine is ingestible without or with food.  Additionally, if you no longer wish to continue the medicine, slowly reduce the dosage. Doing so at once will increase the chances of high blood pressure and quick heart rate.  A Few Tips To Remember There’s no hard and fast rule when consuming tizanidine, but a bunch of tips might be helpful, like: Do not keep the capsule in open air for a long time.  Consuming it with food increases 20% the chances of absorption, although it slows its efficiency.  It is possible to ingest tizanidine with food or without it but the dose must be consistent.  The medicine is short-acting, which is why it might take a few days to show its results.  Consume the medicine exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Any less or more of the dosage can have health repercussions.  Interactions With Other Medicines Medicines interacting with tizanidine react in three ways: it either reduces the impact, impacts how long it functions, or increases the side effects.  Interaction between two drugs does not necessitate stopping either of them. All you have to do is talk to your doctor about the drug’s management.  Medicines that have a higher chance of interacting with Tizanidine are:  Amiodarone Acyclovir Anticonvulsants Anti-anxiety drugs Amitriptyline, Nortriptyline, Imipramine and other antidepressants Diphenhydramine and other antihistamines Chlormethiazole Azelastine Ciprofloxacin Duloxetine Saquinavir and other HIV Medicines Low blood pressure medications like ACE inhibitors, barbiturates, calcium-channel antagonists like diltiazem and beta-blockers CYP1A2-inhibiting medicines like rifampin and cimetidine Metoclopramide Morphine, oxycodone, and other opioid analgesics Pimozide Zolpidem or other sleeping pills Chemotherapy medicines and treatments Medicines that help to treat psychological illness, like thioridazine and clozapine Topiramate The reason why CYP1A2 inhibitors should not be taken with Tizanidine is because of possible drug interactions. The CYP1A2 enzyme helps in metabolizing drugs. Thus, if the inhibition takes place, the body will not process efficient drug cleaning.  A few pieces of evidence also show that tizanidine interacts largely with alcohol or other nervous system depressants. Make sure you don’t consume opioids or alpha-2 adrenergic agonists with tizanidine.  The Bottom Line Ask a doctor- is it ok to take 8 mg of Tizanidine they’ll surely say no at first. It is important that you get a proper consultation before settling on the medicine. Tizanidine inhibits motor neurons- something that lets the muscles relax.  As a lot of side effects come with the drug, it is crucial that people take the right dosage. Tablets come in 2,4,6, and 8 mg, which are prescribed according to the individual’s requirements.  Having said that, here comes an end to this article. Thank you for reading it till the end. Is It Ok To Eat Raw Oats?

Eating healthy is our number one resolution for each year. In the list of healthy foods, raw oats have made a timeless entry. Not only are they incredibly versatile, but they are also packed with a multitude of nutrients for the body.  One cup of raw or dry oats consists of nutrients such as phosphorus, magnesium, and selenium. It also contains 307 calories, which is good news for your gut health.  Scientifically known as Avena sativa, oats are very popular for their health benefits. In this article, we will be discussing ‘Is It OK to Eat Raw Oats’ every day and what the possible considerations are.  So, without further ado, let’s get started.  What Do Raw Oats Consist Of? Belonging to the category of whole grain, raw oats are something digested easily. But we cannot gobble the kernels, which is why they have to be processed in the following ways: Picking the oat groats and separating them from the hull Moisture or heat treatment Categorization and sizing Miling and flaking Oat flour, oat flakes, and oat bran are a few end products. Generally, people relish raw or cooked oat flakes as their favorite breakfast.  You can also boil them while preparing porridge or oatmeal, as it is a perfect breakfast option during winter. Oat kernels undergo a consistent heating process, which makes them more digestible.  Highly Nutritious Content Of Raw Oats Since it is a plant-based protein, we all know that oats are rich in fiber. But did you know that they are rich in other nutrients as well? One cup or 81g of raw oats mainly consists of: 55 grams of carbs 307 gms of calories Fiber for 8 gms 11 grams of protein Fat for 5 gms 27% of Magnesium 43% Of Selenium 27% Phosphorus 6% of Potassium Zinc for 27% Apart from these nutrients, raw oats are also full of soluble fiber, which is an advantageous dietary fiber. It mixes up in a gel formula when digested properly. So, those thinking, “is it ok to eat raw oats?” once in a while, should start consuming it.  What Are Some Of Its Notable Health Benefits? All this while, we talked about how raw oats are better for digestion. But it’s time to be a little detailed about the information. So, here it goes: Keeps A Check On Blood Sugar Level Blood sugar control is crucial for the health of type 2 diabetes patients. Those dealing with difficulties in producing insulin, a blood sugar-regulating hormone, should always keep their sugar level in check.  Beta-glucan is an important element that reduces blood sugar as it can form a gel-like substance in the human digestive system.  As our stomach digests all carbs and drains other content, this viscosity reduces its speed. This has direct links with reduced blood sugar levels post-meal and helps stabilize insulin production. 88 people were combined for a 4-week study who had been taking high blood pressure medicine. More than 70% of them were consuming four gms of soluble fiber, which helped them pause their medication for a while.  And guess where does most of the fiber coming from? Raw Oats! Maintains Low Cholesterol Levels Beta-glucan, a common ingredient found in oats, reduces cholesterol like none other. It acts by gelling up in your small intestine and promotes better gut health.  Furthermore, the gel limits the ingestion of dietary cholesterol and disturbs the reabsorption of bile salts. It plays a critical role when it comes to the metabolism of fats.  Studies have demonstrated that every day, consuming at least 3 gms of raw oats or beta-glucan can bring down cholesterol by 5-10%.  Additionally, a test-tube study reveals that raw oats dispense almost 26% of beta-glucan at the time of digestion. This is much more than cooked oats which only produce 9% of it.  So, consuming raw oats impacts fat metabolism and also promotes healthy cholesterol levels.  Raw Oats Benefit Heart Health The list of raw oats does not end there- they also support a healthy heart. High blood pressure is a major reason for cardiac arrests, which could be kept in control with the help of raw oats.  A study with 110m people determined that those dealing with high blood pressure consume 8 grams or more of soluble fiber oats every day. Not only did it help in reducing diastolic and systolic blood pressure, but it also kept the heart healthy.  People eating 5.5 mg of raw oats daily experienced a major drop in their systolic blood pressure, which was a healthy sign.  Thus, consuming soluble fiber comes with a number of benefits, including keeping you away from cardiac diseases.  Your Gut Health Remains Strong Fourthly, raw oats have an impeccable ability to support healthy bowel as they increase fecal bulk. So, is it ok to eat raw oats? You bet! It is mostly because of the insoluble fiber present in raw oats which is easily digestible. The intestinal bacteria find it difficult to ferment with insoluble fiber as their soluble counterparts do, which maximizes the stool size.  It is estimated that your stool weight can increase by 3.4 grams if you eat raw oats every day. Everyday intake of oat fiber also helps to treat constipation, as more than 20% of people are affected by it. Raw oats consist of organic oat brands that are easily available on the market.  Promotes Weight Loss Intaking whole-grain cereals such as oats in a significant quantity reduces obesity and the possibility of weight gain. This is partly because soluble fibers give you a feeling of fullness for a long time.  Increased fullness feelings have connections with reduced food consumption as they suppress your appetite.  Two different research portray that consuming oats not only helps you keep fuller but also suppresses the need to eat every four hours. Thus, one can easily work on losing weight if they have been eating raw oats.  How To Eat Raw Oats? There are multiple ways of adding raw oats to your diet that can enhance your health. Some of the common procedures are listed below:  Soak Them Overnight Prepare a healthy, power-packed, and delicious batch of oats by soaking them overnight and get a balanced breakfast. Secondly, combine equal portions of oats along with liquid to give it a nice consistency.  Shake or stir the formula for some time, and then throw it in the fridge. You’ll wake up to an amazing breakfast the next morning.  A lot of people love adding fruits or flavorings to give the mixture a yummy turn. And guess what? You can do it with raw oats, too. So, what’s stopping you from treating your taste buds with an explosion of flavors and tastes? Turn Them Into Energy Balls Prepare a bowl full of energy-rich oats by adding dry fruits and nuts with it. Energy balls are the best options for those running out of time in the morning yet looking to be full through the day.  Not only do these balls come with protein, fiber, and healthy fats, but they also keep your cholesterol in check.  Bite them after your meal, or simply add them as your lunch for 6 days straight. You are surely going to see some changes in your digestion and metabolism after eating raw oats.  Oats In Your Smoothie Spice things up by mixing oatmeal in your daily smoothie. Make sure you get a thick, creamy texture that indicates extra fiber. This helps your stomach to be full for a longer period of time.  There shouldn’t be a problem adding raw oats to your smoothie if you are already using instant or rolled oats. These oats are already cooked in light steaming and have been toasted, too.  They give a crunchy flavor and are also packed with various health benefits. Kids might not want to gobble the smoothie as it is. Hence, for extra taste, you can add cocoa or strawberry powder.  Whole Oat Groats Oat groats refer to hulled oat kernels, which are its outermost, inedible layer. You need to remove it from the oats and add them to salads or stews instead.  Oat groats shouldn’t be cooked for more than 50 minutes after soaking. They need overnight soaking to make the cooking even better. This recipe is ideal for people who don’t want to consume raw oats.  Make sure you soak them well because not doing so might slow cooking. Also, put them in a pressure cooker for instant results.  Oatmeal Breakfast With Chocolate and Dry Fruits Are you new to oats cooking? Then, you must try this super easy recipe, which is quick and gives you exactly the same health benefits as raw oats.  Boil oats on low flame and subsequently add dry fruits or chocolate of your preference. Is It OK To Put Peroxide In Your Ear

In liquid ear drops, hydrogen peroxide is very commonly found, and it is sometimes also referred to as cerumenolytics. When it comes to treating ear infections, these are ideally the first medications.  However, there are various considerations related to this drug. For example, people ask- is it ok to put peroxide in your ear when the sole purpose is to remove ear wax? Or is it something used for serious ear conditions?  If you are perplexed with such questions, this article is the one for you. So, let’s get started with this article and scrape out the truth behind peroxide.  Why Is Hydrogen Peroxide Put In The Ear? In medical terms, earwax is called cerumen, and cerumenolytics or hydrogen peroxide are common solutions. It softens earwax and dissolves them easily. An individual having excessive earwax can use peroxide in a safe amount.  Generally, the ears accumulate earwax in order to clean or protect our ear canal. But too much accumulation isn’t healthy.  Ceruminous glands, specialized glands, secrete acidic substances and fats that save the ear from contamination. These discharges trap dirt, dust, and dead skin cells present inside the ear. The blend together forms what we call earwax.  Generally, earwax is pushed off the ear canal when an individual eats or speaks. But if the natural process of cleaning fails, the ear canal gets filled with earwax and creates pain and infections.  Factors that lead to excessive earwax A number of factors can cause too much accumulation of earwax, like- Prolonged wearing of hearing ads Listening to songs in headphones for a long time Using cotton buds to clean the ear Structural abnormalities around the ear canal What happens when too much earwax accumulates? If the ear is full of earwax, it will result in a plug and, later, cerumen impaction. A 2020 study suggests cerumen infection can affect over 6% of common people and over 30% of adults.  Other risk implications due to surplus earwax are:  Hearing imparities Continuous ringing in the ear, also known as tinnitus Constantly feeling that the ear is full Pain Dizziness Itching inside the ear Ear drainage Infection So, Is It OK To Put Peroxide In Your Ear? Not all ear drops have peroxide in them, but most of them aim to soften earwax. So, the simple answer to this is to check the quantity before putting.  Hydrogen peroxide drops have a lot of carbamide peroxide in them, which releases oxygen when going inside. This causes bubbles inside the ear and softens the plug, thus causing easy removal.  All in all, you can put peroxide in your ear without having to worry about its side effects. Over-the-counter solutions in these drops consist of purified water and only 3% of peroxide, which is safe.  The only side effects of peroxide are: Bubbling or fizzing sensation in the ear Mouth tastes bitter Temporary but prolonged ear pain Dizziness Tinnitus  Hearing loss or disability Side-effects of too much peroxide usage Excessive application can cause blistering and skin irritation. In some cases, it has caused more than 10% of burns.  There could be irritation inside the ear, which could result in earaches and inflammation.  People with past records of ear infections should refrain from using the drops.  What Are Its Alternatives? If you think hydrogen peroxide isn’t competent enough to remove earwax, there are other alternatives as well. Firstly, try rinsing your ear with a clean ear syringe.  Ear syringes are easily available at the local medicine shop, and you can also get them on online apps. Make sure to always follow the given instructions on the product label.  There are various alternatives to earwax softeners, including: Ear drops having mineral oils, almond, or camphor in them Docusate sodium Acetic acid Sodium bicarbonate Put the ear drops in the ear which is affected and continue to do so for 2-3 days. Not only will it help to loosen the war, but it will also create the path to bring them out.  Next, fill the bulb syringe you are using with a saline water mixture or just lukewarm water. Put the syringe tip near your ear’s opening and squeeze the syringe out very gently.  Keep turning your head side-by-side to allow excessive wax and water to flow out of your ear. It is better if you carry out the process over a bathtub or sink. Refrain from using foreign objects like pens, paper clips, or cotton swabs inside the ear.  Can I Naturally Clean My Earwax Without Using Peroxide? Yes, if peroxide isn’t your preferred solution, you can do so at home. Ear cleaning isn’t too much of a headache since they can naturally clean themselves.  However, some people produce more earwax than others, which calls for a deeper cleaning. In such cases, you can mark yourself safe from peroxide and instead use these to clean earwax: Valsalva Maneuver In order to conduct this, you will first have to use your fingers and plug your nose. Keep blowing out with puffed cheeks and closed lips. This will create a popping sensation, and you will immediately get relief from clogged ears.  The Compression Therapy Warm or steam compress also helps to unclog your ears. But for this purpose, you have to put a warm compress on your infected ear and pave the way for some steam to go inside. If compression isn’t feasible for you, try hot showers for the next 4-5 days.  Oil Drops Putting oil drops inside the ear also helps, and there’s no such consideration for the oil selection. You can use any oil like mineral, baby, and even olive oils to put inside your ears. Keep moving your head for 15-20 seconds so that the oil reaches everywhere and helps to unclog the wax.  OTC Nasal Decongestants Decongestants sometimes help to unclog ears when sinus inflammation or other contaminants block them. OTC ear drops should always be used with label instructions.  Safety Tips To Consider Dr. McNeely says you do not necessarily have to use peroxide if the infection or pain is minor because it can worsen the condition. For instance, if you are suffering from a perforated eardrum, you have to keep an entirely dry ear for healing.  Peroxide sometimes also impacts your skin. The usual strength of the drug can irritate the skin around your ear along with the eardrum. If peroxide irritates your ears too much, here’s what to do: Blend half water with half hydrogen peroxide so that it causes less abrasion. Be sure to keep the solution close to your body temperature; otherwise, you might feel dizzy. Gently pour the mixture into your ear using a dropper.  Allow it to settle for 10 seconds, and then flip your head.  Aftercare is equally significant in the case of peroxide application. Dr. Dobrowski suggests drying the ear thoroughly after the process. Your ear canal will become prone to infections if you leave it in a damp environment for a long time.  Knock, Knock- It’s Time To See A Doctor! It is not feasible, and neither is it recommended to solve all your ear problems at home. Expert advice is mandatory. Other than removing blocked wax, there might also be warning signs to visit a doctor. Fever, ear drainage, and hearing loss are all signs that it’s time for a consultation. As mentioned above, your ears do not need regular cleaning because they clean themselves.  These essentially sensitive body organs need ample time and space for cleaning. So, if you lack both, it’s best to leave it to the doctor to treat them.  Parting Thoughts Hydrogen peroxide, when used in a recommended quantity, will never harm your ears. So, always try not to exceed the amount and put your ears in danger. Call your doctor immediately if something doesn’t feel right inside.  And it’s a wrap on this article. Is It OK To Pop A Zit?

Popping out pimples is tempting, undoubtedly. But that does not justify asking- is it OK to pop a zit? We’ve got enough problems for our skin- dirt, dust, and pollution, you name it.  Trust me, nobody likes to attend events with this uninvited guest. But there’s not much we can do. Once you are a teenager, hormonal changes in your body will cause acne and pimples.  Popping a zit isn’t the right thing to do; there are several side effects associated. So, let’s get started with today’s article, where we will be discovering what causes pimples and how to tackle them gently without actually popping.  What’s A Zit? First things first, a zit or a pimple refers to small bumps that emerge on the skin’s surface. Acne, when it continues to grow bigger, takes the shape of pimples and is mostly seen on the face, shoulders, and even chest.  There’s a range of severity in pimples, from cysts to blackheads- all types of zits are found in youngsters. Although their formation starts taking place during adolescence, pimples can impact people of any age.  Causes Of Pimples One of the fewest causes why zits occur is when dead skin and sebum clog pores. This results in inflammation and infection, and some individuals are affected more than others. Zits and The Sebaceous Glands  Sebum is an oily or wax-like substance secreted from the sebaceous glands of our skin. The sebum is responsible for lubricating our hair as well as skin. Sebaceous glands lie deep into the pores of the skin and all across the body.  Only the soles of our feet and palms are devoid of these glands. The largest number of these are found on the scalp and face, which is why our skin produces the highest amount of oil. As the sebaceous glands keep producing sebum within the pores, there’s a constant growth of new skin cells. Meanwhile, the skin’s outer layers keep shedding. But sometimes they are not shed.  Consequently, they remain trapped in the pores and stick together along with sticky sebum. This ultimately blocks the pores and causes a pimple to pop out on the skin.  Infection Caused Due To Bacteria The spot where dead skin cells and sebum accumulate causes pore blockage. It promotes the growth of bacteria such as Propionibacterium acnes which is a slow-thriving bacterium. However, it is the root cause of acne on the skin.  Propionibacterium acnes remain on the skin and do not cause harm. But as soon as they get an opportunity, they immediately reproduce and start creating problems for our skin.  The slowly growing organism keeps feeding the sebum and creates substances that result in the immune response. And that’s how skin spots and inflammation are caused.  Pimples that are caused due to bacterial infection are generally not contagious, but not taking good care might cause problems.  Different Types Of Zits On The Skin What would be your first answer if your younger one asks you- is it OK to pop a zit? Obviously, you’d first want to know what kind of a pimple it is. Here are a few different types of them you might see around:  Blackheads Blackheads have the conception that they occur due to dirt accumulation. Strangely, some others also believe that scrubbing can help remove it. But that’s not the case.  These zits are visible on the skin very clearly and are commonly referred to as open comedo. Usually, they have a dark brown or black color, based on their skin color.  Whiteheads Whiteheads or closed comedones are generally caused due to clogged pores deep within the skin. These cause the sebum to keep developing and, ultimately, raising a white bump. Squeezing a whitehead can result in pus and bacteria getting deeper into the skin’s surface, which is even more harmful to the skin. Whiteheads are usually smaller in size than other zits.  Papules, Nodules and Pustules Papules or small, rounded bumps around the skin cause mild pain and are usually pink in color.  Nodules loOK more or less the same as papules, although they are bigger in size. Additionally, nodules are painful because they are rooted deep within the skin.  Lastly, pustules are zits full of pus and they are found on the skin’s surface. Usually, the pus remains on the top with a red base.  So, Is It OK To Pop A Zit? What Happens When You Do It? Anything occurring on the skin is nature’s way of communicating things. Getting into nature’s process will have a consequence on the skin. This is exactly why we don’t recommend popping out a zit. Some of the end results include: Skin Barrier When someone tries to pop up a zit or squeeze it too hard, a barrier is created within the skin. This results in permanently scarring your face. Worse, if the zit contains infected pus, you might lead the bacteria infecting hair follicles and other pores. This eventually causes a bigger outbreak of acne.  Delays Healing The human body is made to heal rapidly after cuts or scratches. But when you interrupt the process by picking out zits and acne, the healing speed slows down. Ultimately, you get blemished on the skin, which is too difficult to wipe.  More Skin Irritation  It happens so many times that the popping attempt goes wrong. Instead of taking out pus and other contaminants, we unknowingly push the content deeper inside the skin layer. Not only does it clog pores, but also triggers inflammation and irritates the skin.  Skin Discoloration and Hyperpigmentation Last but not least, keep picking out zits and acne that result in skin discoloration as that particular area gets filled with dead skin cells. It sabotages blood circulation, thus causing hyperpigmentation in various parts of the face.  How To Deal With Pimples Without Harming The Skin? Bursting a pimple is not the only way to get rid of it, thankfully. There are other alternatives that are gentler on the skin and cause no side effects. Here are a few of them: Dealing with Blackheads If you consult a dermatologist regarding blackheads, they are likely to prescribe you benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. These are over-the-counter topical drugs that can loosen the skin before someone pops it. Antibiotics, chemical exfoliators, and even retinoids can help with first-line treatments. If your blackhead still persists, your dermatologist is likely going to prescribe you microdermabrasion or chemical peel therapy.  Getting Rid of Whiteheads Just like blackheads, popping out whiteheads is also not encouraged. But a few dermatologists have their own way of fixing a whitehead. They use isopropyl alcohol, not more than 70%, for sterilizing a needle. Then, the needle is gently inserted into the skin where the pores are clogged. As the needle is injected outwards, the pus starts accumulating in the needle.  If you are getting an acne or pimple treatment, it is important that you wash your face and hands properly. Not doing so will increase the chances of infection.  Saying Goodbye To Pustules As I mentioned already, pustules lie deep within the skin which are very complicated to bring out. So, what to do in case you have got a pustule? Dermatologists recommend using a warm compress that will not inflame your skin and help in opening the pores. In some cases, they might also suggest OTC treatments. It is best if you don’t try the pustule treatment at home because experts can deal with complex issues easily. DIYing might create more skin irritation.  When To Consult A Dermatologist? Acne or pimple, once or twice, doesn’t harm the skin. After all, we go through so many changes in a single day. But it gets problematic when these skin bumps start visiting you every now and then.  You know it’s time to see a dermatologist when you have pimples that scar your skin and cannot be treated with OTCs.  Check whether the pimple makes you too uncomfortable to walk out in the crowd. In that case, you can try the makeup alternative.  If your pimple keeps changing colors, it might be a warning signal. The pus is usually white, but those dealing with skin infection may see yellowish pus which is mixed with blood.  Consult a dermatologist if you accidentally popped out a pimple and the blood isn’t stopping. This, again can be an alarming sign.  The Bottom Line So, what do you think about squeezing acne? Is it OK to pop a zit? Should you do it very often? Everything that has been provided above is just a teaser of what your skin can go through if not taken good care of.  It is better to leave nature’s process to itself. Let things heal at their own pace. But obviously, there are a few considerations that I have listed down when you try picking out a zit.  Having said that, this guide approaches its end. Let me know your experiences of popping out acne and pimples in the comment box below. Thank you for reading! Is It Ok To Wear Black To A Wedding?

Long gone are the days when reds and whites were the only colors associated with a wedding. Black is the new in, and it’s making a debut in the world of occasions and traditions, too.  The Victorian era was popular for using the shade only when it came to mourning. With incoming trends and an urge to do “something unique,” people have started wearing odd colors at auspicious ceremonies like weddings.  But one question that’s very commonly heard is, “Is it ok to wear black to a wedding?” If this is what you’re wondering too, trust me, you need to check this out. This guide has got everything you need.  Perceptions About Wearing Black In Weddings The 1920s were full of sartorial stigmas, including refraining from wearing black at weddings. Laurie Arons, the organizer of special events, quote, “The rules around the color have definitely softened in recent years…” Traditionally, people would connect black to a wedding with an impactful faux pas. There was a stigma with choosing the inauspicious color for a union as pious as a wedding.  Things have certainly changed in the 21st century with a major change in the governing wedding attire. There is a broader selection of wedding outfits now, including pastel hues and once-controversial ominous black outfits. But the change is certainly not arbitrary, and it’s a reflection of constant changes in societal norms. People have started taking fashion seriously, and they are willing to create a soft blend between celebration and self-expression.  Is It Ok To Wear Black To A Wedding?- What Do Experts Have To Say About It? Honestly, the black dilemma is never-ending. But you need to break the stereotypes with the help of experts. Here are some people who have profound thoughts about wearing black to auspicious ceremonies like weddings: Wedding Planner- Laurie Arons As mentioned already, Laurie has always been too vocal about donning the dark outfit. She says that bridesmaids are now seen in chic black gowns and that the color is slowly moving out of the faux pas category. There is a freedom to choose a color that makes them stand out in the crowd. Experts Designing Bridal Outfits There are various fashion designers out there embracing the concept of black in their collection of bridal outfits. Not only do black wedding gowns create a mesmerizing appeal but they also help to bring out the best in sashes and veils. Black is no longer a taboo when the wedding bells start ringing.  Wedding Etiquette Professionals Finally, wedding etiquette professionals speak up about the commonness of white wedding gowns. Even with constant experiments, the styles have been limited now. As a result, black gowns with sequins or laces have started looking more elegant. From somber to formal appeal, there’s nothing that black in weddings cannot cover.  Connoisseur-Approved Guides On Wearing Black Outfits In A Marriage When doing things differently in a world where people do not accept change with open arms, you need the guidance of experts. This is exactly why I have listed down some tips from connoisseurs who have worn black and suggest doing the same without feeling guilty about it: Think of the traditions A few questions must be asked first. For instance, check whether the groom or bride belongs to a culture where black is considered ominous.  A number of Chinese and Indian weddings do not entertain attendees who wear dark colors in weddings. If none of them has such boundaries, your black outfit deserves a green flag.  The next thing to keep in mind is if there’s an assigned dress code. For example, whether the bride wants you to come in casual or formal attire. This will help you enormously to choose the color, with black leading the herd.  Keep the location in mind When considering metropolitan Northeast like Boston and New York, you will see women in tiny black dresses. Some of them even don evening gowns while attending weddings.  But that’s not the case in the further South. It is very rare there, and people mostly like to attend a wedding in colorful outfits. McHattie says the wedding location has a lot to say about whether black is an optimum selection or not.  In beach weddings, black might not be the best alternative. Instead, go for bright colors that will complement the overall wedding vibe. It also keeps you cool when the sun is overhead. Pair it up right Black outfits are fun and classy until you leave them barren. Make your party look glowing with shiny accessories. The best part about black apparel is that they go with almost all kinds of jewelry.  Golden earrings or pastel-hued neckpieces would look lovely. Avrumson states, “Wear your favorite bold jewelry such as drop earrings, a bracelet stack, or a single bangle…” Do not forget to pop up your clutch, too. It is simply going to make your outfit stand out in the crowd. Apart from the outfit, try to keep nothing else black. Instead try neutral shades like metallic for shoes and stuff.  Consider the time of the day and season If you have successfully ticked all the above factors, the next one to consider is this. We are well aware of black’s supreme heat-absorbent feature. Hence, I don’t need to stress enough why you shouldn’t wear it on a scorching hot day.  It makes sense to wear light outfits if the wedding takes place during spring or summer. Keep dark colors like black for fall or winter occasions and ensure your comfort along with peppy fashion.  Naina Singla, who is a stylist and fashion expert, says in this regard- “I recommend trying a printed black dress or a softer shade of black (off-black vs. dark black). In the evening, you could also consider adding embellishments like ruffles, lace or rhinestones…”  It’s time to customize your little-black-dress Contrary to popular belief, black isn’t always melancholy. Black outfits that have minimal cleavage are mid-thigh length and look extremely classy.  But that’s not the only way to style it up. There has to be some drama, so throw in colorful jewelry and accessories.  Additions like ruffle and tulle make your outfit look classy. Even silhouette adds a classy texture to a usual black outfit. Off-shoulder bodycon is among the first preferences for most wedding experts.  What To Wear In A Black Tie or Conservative Wedding? Guests have a great reputation for mastering black outfits for all types of occasions, from conventional golf club invitations to garden-style parties. One more instance where you must be equally confident with putting on black is a black-tie wedding. These marriages usually have a formal dress code where black, full-length gowns are encouraged. Not only do they look aesthetic, but they also fit the event perfectly.  When heading to a garden party/beach/destination wedding… Let’s admit it, destination weddings are a bit different than our usual ones. If it’s a beach or a daytime wedding, our eyes go directly to light-colored outfits. But what if somebody wants to rock a black outfit? Well, don’t worry because we’ve got your back. Instead of caring too much about the frowny eyes, just wear your LBD with confidence. To keep yourself a little cooler, try tying your hair in a cute knot.  In fact, wearing black is great at weddings because you don’t want to steal the bride’s thunder. So, why not wear something exactly opposite to hers and give her a chance to bloom on her special day?  Male guests wearing black at weddings… There’s no different rule for male guests to don black at a wedding. The only consideration is whether the occasion is formal or informal. Male guests or the best man can easily wear black suits on a formal occasion.  For summer occasions, focus more on the weather conditions than just on style. Because outdoors are never easy. Stuffing too much in a black suit would simply show the discomfort in you.  Concluding Thoughts So, I want to know your perspective on- is it ok to wear black to a wedding? Trust me, black is the trendiest color to rock an auspicious event. But there are a number of considerations that come with it.  Make sure you do not disrespect a certain tradition while trying to spice things up. That being said, just consider the aforementioned factors and you’ll be good to go! Thanks for reading this up. We hope you liked it! Continue Reading: Is It Ok To Wear White After Labor Day?
