Fry them, saute them, or turn them into wedges; potato is the most loved vegetable of all time. But is it ok to eat green potatoes? Well, the answer is not as simple as one might think. Nutritionists generally recommend not consuming green potatoes as they have negative health impacts. Of course, there are some considerations if someone is willing to proceed with their decision. If you want to delve deeper into the topic and know the potential side effects of eating green potatoes, check out this guide. It answers most of your questions and also provides valuable suggestions. So, without further ado, let’s quickly get started! What Are The Reasons Behind A Potatoe Turning Green? As many might not know, the greening of potatoes is quite natural. When these vegetables remain exposed to light, the skin cells in potatoes produce chlorophyll. Furthermore, this chlorophyll leads the potato peel to turn gurn and ready to sprout. Continuous light exposure activates the skin cells and produces a glycoalkaloid toxin called solanine, which tastes bitter. In this process, chaconine, another toxin, is also found. Poison.org highlights how two toxins in a fruit or vegetable can not only cause abdominal pain but also have other symptoms. It’s easy to say if a dark-colored potato is turning green by peeling off its skin and finding green patches inside. But what if someone consumes a potato with a green tinge?Would that be equally toxic? Not necessarily because potatoes having a green tinge are easily removable by peeling off their skin. It’s when the vegetable starts tasting bitter that you need to rethink things. Potatoes that taste sour or bitter contain higher levels of toxins and shouldn’t be consumed at all! Hence, it’s better to discard them altogether. Should You Throw All Green Potatoes At Home?Well, it somehow got easy to answer, “is it ok to eat green potatoes?” because we know it’s not. According to the USDA, you need not dump all your potatoes at once, provided you know how to cook them efficiently. Now, that might be a challenge for some! All you have to do is peel the shoots, skins, and anything that looks green. That’s exactly where the solanine concentration takes place. Don’t mind peeling off the skin aggressively and removing every small trace of it. Unline bacteria such as salmonella and E.coli, chaconine, and solanine cannot be destroyed by cooking. You might lose some alkaloids while boiling toxic potatoes, but who can take a chance?Well, solanine is more bitter than others and is quite easy to build up in the vegetable. Potatoes might be a bit alkaloid in flavor, but they cannot be too bitter when consumed. Side Effects Of Consuming Green PotatoesSolanine, the greening element in potatoes, usually doesn’t hurt humans if the quantity remains considerable. However, if someone consumes 20 pounds of green potatoes at regular intervals, they are likely to fall sick. Some of the most common symptoms of solanine poisoning are:BloatingChest painHeadacheDiarrheaPain in the abdomen or stomachBody temperature falling beyond normalVomitingSlow breathingSlow pulse rateIf a person finds him/her in a difficult situation after consuming green potatoes, they must immediately seek medical attention. While a few individuals might not stop eating this bitter-tasting potato, some of them avoid it. From the green-colored skin to sprouted potatoes, they try to keep gastrointestinal issues at bay. So, is it ok to eat green potatoes under certain conditions? It actually depends on a person’s immunity, but the general suggestion is always a no! In some people, the symptoms might start showing up within a few hours, whereas others might not feel anything at all. What Amounts Of Solanine Is Acceptable?A lot of countries have already banned the sale of potatoes having excessive levels of solanine in them, along with other glycoalkaloids. The FDA restricts the intake of 200-250 mg of glycoalkaloids per kg of raw green potato. On the other hand, 91 to 113 mg per pound of the vegetable isn’t acceptable either. Canada exercises a similar 200mg/kg limit, but that’s not the case in most European countries. Some places might store potatoes in great conditions, yet they still get ruined or “green.” Make sure you are limiting consumption in dire circumstances. The Toxic Dose Of SolanineHow can we decide what’s a toxic dose of solanine? Well, the FDA has shared something important for consumers to decide what quantity of solanine they should ingest. As per the Missouri Poison Center, there is a low risk if the quantity remains between 0.5 to 1 mg per lb. People can easily recover at home if they have developed some side effects of solanine. On the flip side, extreme solanine poisoning cases have caused severe symptoms and, eventually, death. However, these cases might be incredibly rare, so proper care is required. Does Boiling Or Peeling Green Potatoes Make Any Difference? Solanine is the highest in the peel of potatoes. Some studies also suggest that peeling might reduce the poisonous content by 25-75%. Make sure to also remove sprouts or green flesh areas to make a difference. Trimmed and peeled potatoes still contain ample toxins that can make a person sick. Hence, if the green hues look darker than before, it might represent that the solanine concentration is doubled. Cooking the vegetable in any form- baking, frying, or microwaving- might reduce the toxin level to some extent. Since the flavor is very unusual, one might feel a burning sensation in the mouth and even throat. If the potato you just brought home has a few green spots, simply peel the portion. It’s best if you throw the potatoes that keep tasting bitter even after boiling or cooking. Ways To Avoid Potatoes From Becoming GreenSo, is it ok to eat green potatoes? If not, how do you store them efficiently? I know this is a major concern for most of my readers. Well, don’t worry, as we have got you covered. The U.S. Agriculture Department has pointed out how to store potatoes to avoid getting them green: Keep them in a basement or cellar where it’s a bit dark and cooler than other places.Temperature must remain between 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit.Store them away from appliances that do not dispense heat, like a refrigerator. If you’re someone growing potatoes at home, try hilling or storing soil around the potato plant. This will keep its tubers away from direct heat and sunlight. Consequently, this will allow potatoes to grow very close to the soil’s surface, and they will not turn green. Storing potatoes directly into the freezer isn’t too wise because the temperature becomes too cold. A few studies have suggested how solanine levels are impacted by the temperature at which potatoes are stored. Those who do not have a cool place to store potatoes must buy only the necessary quantity. Restock them once they go out of stock. What To Do With A Green Potato? It is usually wise to tackle green potatoes carefully. We all know how rotten fruit or vegetables can spread contaminants to the rest of them. As I mentioned before, if there are small portions of greening in the potatoes, simply peel or chop them off. But what if things don’t end there? The next smart thing to do is throw away the tuber. Dieticians suggest never consuming tubers that have turned green as they can impact health severely. So stick to the skin, always! You can easily consume the rest of the vegetables in the most delectable way possible. After all, potatoes are everybody’s favorite. From baking them to frying, not a single person hates these delectable buddies. As a gardener, you can plant seed tubers 4-6 inches deep into the ground to avoid any sort of greening. Some also work on eliminating exposure to artificial light right after storing or harvesting. Concluding WordsTo end up, it might be safe to say that the decision depends entirely on your hands. Is it ok to eat green potatoes or not- this question, or rather a debate, is a never-ending one. But yes, fruits and vegetables are better to consume with safe considerations. And that’s exactly the case with green or solanine-rich potatoes. Make sure to keep this potentially toxic vegetable away from your dining table. If you are not into wasting food and stuff, plant these potatoes in your garden and grow new potato plants. That’s a topic of discussion for some other day!Continue Reading:Is It Ok To Eat Oatmeal Every Day?Is It Ok To Drink Apple Cider Vinegar? Quality Meats, Hassle-Free: The Convenience of Meat Delivery

Not all food we consume is of consistent quality. Some might need freezing in order to ensure their shelf life. Some of the most popular food items that need freezing or thawing is meat. Throwing meat in your freezer is not all; there are various tips to preserve it in the right way. Both refreezing and thawing are great ways to preserve foods that we ain’t eating right away. Whether you bought some extra steak in the market or couldn’t prepare your favorite chicken recipe, meat refreezing is a great option. So, is it ok to refreeze meat? Let’s learn more about it in today’s comprehensive guide. Guidelines For Refreezing and Thawing MeatFood must never be thawed right on its countertop. One of the foremost considerations is to never thaw it at room temperature. Doing so will increase the chances of developing bacteria and, as a result, will make you sicker. Let’s have a quick overview of the right ways to preserve meat: Consideration #1: Proper storage and slow thawing in the refrigerator are key to safely refreezing meat multiple times…Are you cooking meat for a family of four? It makes sense to throw the entire pork shoulder in the freezer. Similarly, if you are cooking for two people, freeze them slowly, part by part. It becomes easy when you take things slow when it comes to freezing a huge meat chunk, defrosting, and cooking. Getting meat right from the butcher paves the way for some freezer-friendly packaging. But you need to ensure more safety for the well-being of your family. So, the most ideal way to freeze the meat is to leave the packaging on. Your freezer will have different areas for storing food items. Look for the kind of packaging used for freezing meat. Consideration #2: Refreezing meat using approved thawing methods, such as thawing in the refrigerator, can help maintain safety…Planning things ahead will help save a lot of time while cooking. Large frozen items like meat pieces require frosting for at least 24 hours. On the other hand, small frozen food items like boneless chicken breast or ground meat do not need thawing for more than a day. However, thawing right into the refrigerator needs certain consideration. Firstly, a few areas of the appliance will keep it cooler than others. So, make sure to check where you are storing it. ‘Secondly, if you set your refrigerator at 35 degrees Fahrenheit, the food might take a lot of time to thaw. Once you thaw it in the refrigerator, stew meat, seafood, and poultry items will remain of good quality for a day or two. It is impossible to refreeze the thawed food in the refrigerator without cooking it, and there can be potential quality loss. Consideration #3: Refreezing meat does not pose immediate health risks if done correctly, but the quality of the meat may be affected…Refreezing poultry and other forms of meat is widely practiced by people who buy bulk quantities and store them for later use. All kinds of fresh meat can be frozen without any potential health hazards. Refreezing has no immediate health risks if you take all necessary precautions. However, it can depreciate the quality of the meat. Ensure to freeze the meat immediately.Put the food into packaging that is suitable for the freezer. Also, it ensures that it stops the loss of moisture and avoids air contact. The freezer must be set below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. In order to avoid spoilage, you can chill fresh meat to a temperature of 40 degrees F. Be sure to do it within 24 hours, or else the quality of the food will be simply destroyed. Consideration #4: The type of meat and the number of times it has been refrozen can impact the quality of the meat…All this while, we have been discussing how refreezing meat can impact its quality. But in order to understand it clearly, let’s understand different types of meat refreezing. Not all meats respond the same when being refrozen several times. Here’s what you need to know:BeefThere have been studies proving how different thaw-freeze combinations have impacted beef steaks. A blend of thawing, aging, and refreezing the steaks resulted in more extreme tenderness than fresh steaks. Freezing beef meats for a short duration helps prevent some downsides in red meat’s quality. Poultry384 Turkish supermarket shoppers were interviewed, which proved that refrigeration, microwaving, and countertops are the most common thawing methods for chickens. None of these techniques had an impact on the texture or color of the poultry. However, microwave or refrigerator thawing does cause 18% less shrinkage of the meat than other methods. LambLamb meats, when stored and frozen at a certain temperature, undergo changes in quality markers such as texture, shrinkage, and juiciness. Lamb meats stored at a temperature between -58°F to -112°F were more tender than the ones stored at usual freezing temperatures. PorkWhen it comes to the effects of thawing, pork is no exception. Studies show how refreezing has effects on pork loin, too. Every sequence causes meat discoloration, although there are no significant health risks. Constant thawing and prolonged freezing might decrease its juiciness. FishDid you know that you can also defrost seafood and maintain its quality just like fresh? Unlike meat, seafood can only be stored for 1-2 days if you have already broken the seal. However, experts suggest not defrosting seafood in vacuum-sealed packaging because bacteria form upon them.Cooks Share Their Personal Experience Of Meat ThawingCooking plans have no certainty. There might be a pound of turkey in your refrigerator left to be cooked just when a co-worker calls in for a party. Situations are unavoidable, but one thing is for sure: freezing and thawing meat takes a toll on both its quality and taste. Chef Dez shares how leaving meat at a normal temperature for an entire day can be extremely harmful to health. Food-born bacteria grow at a quick pace when the temperature is between 40F-140F. Further, he suggests how thawing in your microwave will put some meat parts in extreme danger. So, should we not thaw it at all? Yes, you can! Transferring any type of meat to the refrigerator will help you, especially if you store it for 24-72 hours. Not only does it keep it in a safe-temperature environment, but it also ensures it doesn’t lose its nutritional value. There are other alternatives, as well, for people who are into unprecedented cooking sessions. Seal the frozen meat in air-tight bags with just a little passage of air. Put it into a container, fill it with cold water, and then decrease the water flow. As the water keeps overflowing to the sides of the container, you will get efficient thawing without any downsides. Concluding WordsHealth is wealth; without maintaining our health properly, there’s no way we can survive. But when it comes to taking care of our health, particularly in terms of food habits, things go out of our way sometimes. If you are a meat lover who is fond of consuming frozen meat, make sure to consider the aforementioned factors. While it’s good to satisfy your taste buds, make sure you do not compromise your health. And it’s a wrap on this comprehensive guide. Do tell us your way of thawing meat in the comment box below. You need to make sure that you do not waste any of the seeds or the juice that seeps out while you are cutting a pomegranate. It may not be as complicated as cutting an avocado, but cutting a pomegranate needs some amount of patience. There are mainly two simple and quick ways to cut and remove the seeds from a pomegranate. With A SpoonThe most popular and simplest way to take the seeds out of a pomegranate is by using a wooden spoon. You need to make sure to use a well sharp knife and cut the pomegranate around its middle. Then, hold the same on top of a bowl. The seeds should be facing down towards the bowl.Hit the skin with the back of your wooden spoon. Keep doing it till you have all the seeds fallen down on the bowl. Once you collect them all, rinse them well and strain the seeds. Now, they are all set to enjoy.Scoring With A KnifeAnother popular method to seed a pomegranate is to use a knife to score it.First, use a pairing knife to remove the tiny stem right at the top of the fruit. You may also know it as the flower. Then, score its sides by cutting down the skin between the ridges right from the top to the bottom. If you cannot feel the ridges, make six even cuts around the pomegranate. To prevent the juices from seeping, make sure the cuts are not too deep. Then, grip the fruit and place your thumps right at the top where the flower originally was. Then, gently pull the fruit apart to separate each of the sections. The best way to do this is by keeping it on top of a bowl. This will make sure that all the loose ends fall in the bowl.To continue with this, peel the white membrane which surrounds every section of the seeds. At last, working over a clean surface or a bowl, pull the ends of each of the sections back towards you. This will push the seeds out into the bowl.Depending on how ripe the fruit is, you can just run some of the seeds to separate them. Now, they are all set to eat.Possible Risks Of Eating Pomegranate SeedsWhile there are way too many benefits of eating pomegranate seeds, there are a couple of risks that you need to be aware of, too. While they are very rare, you can always be safe than sorry.Interaction With Blood ThinnersPomegranate seeds may get in touch with blood thinners because of their high content of vitamin K and possible antiplatelet properties. Vitamin K interferes with how effectively a certain blood thinning medication would work. This may result in blood clotting. In addition to it, pomegranate seeds contain certain compounds that have antiplatelet activity. This may further increase bleeding risks when combined with blood-thinning medications.Allergic ReactionsWhile it is a very rare occurrence, some people may be allergic to pomegranate seeds. Allergic reactions to pomegranate seeds may have symptoms like hives, itching, swelling, or breathing difficulties. These reactions usually happen because of the presence of protein in the seeds. This triggers the immune system in some people. If you feel like you are having an allergic reaction to pomegranate seeds, seek medical attention immediately. Also, do not consume pomegranate or any of its products in the future. The Bottom LineI am hoping to have cleared all your doubts about “is it ok to eat pomegranate seeds?”Pomegranate seeds are excellent sources of nutrients and vitamins. They are also very effective in improving hemoglobin count in the blood. There are a number of ways in which you can consume pomegranate seeds – raw, with salads, juice, etc. However, some people may be a bit allergic to it. Is it ok to eat potatoes that have sprouted? Well, we all have been there once or twice, especially during the festive seasons, when everything is on sale. You just end up buying a big bag of potatoes without even thinking twice. So, there is a good chance that a handful of them may have sprouted here and there. So, do you just throw it away? Is it really okay for you to eat those? Do they have anything to do with your health? Well, the questions are many, and the answers are less. But worry not. If you have asked, is it ok? We are here to the rescue. In this article, we shall discuss if it is at all okay to eat sprouted potatoes and when is the exact time to throw them away.Is It Ok To Eat Potatoes That Have Sprouted? The short and simple answer is: It depends! When a potato starts to sprout, the growths (those little eyes, roots, and bumps) have a pretty high concentration of a compound called glycoalkaloids which may cause an unpleasant, sharp, and bitter taste. For most people, you would not witness any bad effects if you consume negligible amounts of it. In fact, one of the compounds, known as solanine, is the exact compound that you may find naturally occurring in tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers. However, consuming them in larger quantities, like the ones in shoots or roots that are just popping up in the back of your store – it may be toxic. If you have any potatoes that look just fine, you may still give it a chance. Just make sure that you are very carefully removing the sprouts right from the roots. This way, you can just really get in there and remove everything that you would not want to eat. They are going to be just fine and just as fulfilling when you cook and eat them (even if they do not look good when they are still raw.)However, if there is a case where the spuds look like they have grown pretty long and are all set to throw a fight, which means the spuds are pretty long, please just throw them away. Those big sprouts are not very pleasing to eat. Also, considering the worst case, they will make you sick. Really, really, sick. Symptoms of solanine poisoning include literally everything, starting from headache and fever to an immensely upset stomach.Okay, How About They Are Green?Potatoes that are kept under the sun will not only start with photosynthesis but also produce solanine. If the green spots on the taters are light in color and are just skin deep, you need to peel them pretty well to get rid of the greener parts and sally forth. However, if it has any other color than green, it is better to toss them off. There is no point in risking your health for potato sprouts. Why Do Potatoes Even Sprout? The answer to this question comes down to where the potatoes have come from and what they require to grow. Potatoes do not always need a lot of dirt to grow like any other plants or foods might. However, they do need a lot of darkness and moisture. So, that would mean that even if the potatoes are not in the dirt but are in a moist and dark place, even if that is your kitchen pantry, they are going to sprout. They just think they are on the ground, and they just do their job by growing. Can you really blame them? How Can You Safely Remove Potato Sprouts?Fortunately, safely removing the potato sprouts is pretty easy. You may use potato peelers or just snap them off with your hand."[Vegetable peelers] are great because they have sharp tools to dig out the eyes and base of the sprouts while also having a peeler to use after they're cleaned up,"says Bryan Silness, the associate manager at research and development at Kraft Heinz.Removing the sprouts is actually one of the easiest things to do while you are cleaning the potatoes. So, you would just want to take some time to rinse off the potatoes under running water to wash off any dirt on the skin."Use the sharp edge of the tool to dig out the eye. Try to get all of it, even though your potato may look a little moon-like! Once you have finished peeling them, make sure to rinse them under running water again to ensure all the bad stuff gets washed off,"Silness said. What Is The Best Way To Store Potatoes?Well, potatoes do not know the difference between soil and floor. If they are getting a moist and dark place, they will start growing. This is something you would want to avoid. Therefore, even if you are getting fresh potatoes, storage may just make them sprout out of nowhere.Hence, storage matters."If you buy them from the produce section of your grocer, transfer them to a breathable bag, like paper or mesh, or put them in a cardboard box, and stash in a cool, dry place," Silness said. You would have to make sure that the storage is not too humid or hot, as that is how the potatoes would start sprouting to begin with.Potatoes are the ultimate drama queens because they don't do well in the cold, either. So, there is no way that you can store them in a refrigerator either."The cold temperatures can cause the starches to convert to sugars and turn brown when they cook, just like a banana as it ripens,"Silness adds. How To Prevent Potatoes from Sprouting?Sprouting potatoes is one of the biggest concerns when it comes to buying them. You cannot buy them in a big lot because they sprout quicker than others. Here are some of the most effective ways in which you can prevent your potatoes from sprouting. Keep The Away from Heat or Light As I mentioned before, storing potatoes plays a major role in preventing them from sprouting. Heat, light, and humidity make the potatoes sprout way faster. Therefore, it is better to keep them in a dark, dry, and cool place. The best options are a drawer or a pantry in comparison to a windowsill or a counter where the light or heat may have a direct effect. Store Potatoes in the FridgeIf you want to keep the potatoes fresh and good, keep them in the fridge. Newer research techniques challenge the age-old practices of storing potatoes. So, keeping them in the fridge is not that bad of an option. You get to keep them away from all the heat, light, and humidity. Experts have suggested storing potatoes in a fridge because the freezing temperatures may increase their potential carcinogens; however, new research says this is not the case. As per the FSA, a fridge extends the shelf life of potatoes by around three to four months. Keep The Potatoes Out of the Plastic BagPotatoes usually come in your regular plastic bag. They are not the best for storage. If you want to keep them from sprouting, keep them in a mesh or paper bag. Plastic does not allow the moisture to leave. Thus, it makes it easy to grow mold or fungus. Keep The Potatoes Away from Certain Vegetables or FruitsIt also matters how you store your potatoes with certain fruits or vegetables. Do not keep them with avocadoes, apples, tomatoes, or other kinds of fruits or veggies that release ethylene. That is a gas that certain fruits and vegetables produce. It makes them ripe quicker than their usual speed. Remove The Rotten or Sprouted PotatoIf you did not know it already – one sprouted potato can make the others sprout, too. So, if you notice one of your potatoes getting sprouted, take it away from the rest of the lot. There is no point in leaving them with the rest just for the bacteria to grow and spoil the rest of them. How Can You Pick the Best Potatoes? When you are buying potatoes, choose the ones that feel firm and do not have any spots or bruises. Also, try not to buy the ones that have green tinges on them. That is the chlorophyll, indicating that the potato has been in the light for too long. Light is one of the major reasons why potatoes sprout. It’s better to go for the ones that barely have any visible eyes. The eyes are a small dent from where the buds and sprouts emerge. If you see sprouts are already growing, even if they are too small, stay away from them. There is a high chance they will grow out quickly and ruin the rest of the potatoes, too. When Should You Toss Out The Sprouted Potatoes? The best kind of potatoes are firm and have tight and nice skin. Those are the kind you would want for the tastiest baked potatoes, fires, and wedges.Anything that is not the above mentioned criterias, needs to be tossed out as soon as possible. If you feel that the potatoes are mushy, soft, moist, or squeezable, they are way past their prime. "If you cut into a potato and it looks green or brown throughout, you should throw your potatoes away," added Silness. The Bottom LineI am hoping by now you know that it is ok to eat potatoes that have sprouted. It is better not to. You may not even know how that may affect your health, so it is best to toss them out of the window. It also matters how you are storing them in a place. Make sure it is not too moist or dark, as the potatoes may just start sprouting there itself. If the spuds are small, you pull them off from the roots. However, if they have grown longer, just throw them away as soon as possible.Continue Reading:Is It Ok To Drink Apple Cider Vinegar? In the ever-evolving world of health and wellness, collagen supplements have gained significant attention for their wide range of benefits. Collagen, a vital protein in our body, plays a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our skin, hair, nails, joints, and bones. As we age, our body's natural production of collagen decreases, leading to various aging signs and health issues. This is where collagen supplements come in, offering a convenient and effective way to boost collagen levels and enhance overall well-being.The Benefits of Collagen Supplements in Daily LifeOne cannot overstate the importance of incorporating collagen supplements into a daily routine, and collagen supplements, such as the multi-collagen peptides in tropical punch flavor offered by SkinnyFit, provide a tasty and convenient way to increase your collagen intake. Regular consumption of these supplements can lead to noticeable improvements in skin elasticity and hydration, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, collagen plays a vital role in hair and nail health, often leading to stronger nails and lustrous hair.Furthermore, collagen supplements are not just about aesthetics; they offer significant health benefits, too. They have been known to aid in joint health, reducing joint pain and stiffness, which is particularly beneficial for those with arthritis or those who engage in regular physical activity. By improving joint health, collagen supplements can enhance mobility and overall quality of life.Collagen Supplements and Gut HealthAn often overlooked aspect of collagen supplements is their positive impact on gut health. Collagen contains amino acids like glycine and proline, which are essential for repairing the intestinal lining and promoting better gut health. This can lead to improved digestion and a reduction in gastrointestinal issues such as bloating and discomfort. Moreover, a healthy gut is intrinsically linked to overall health, including immune function and mental health. Regular intake of collagen supplements can contribute to a more balanced gut microbiome, which in turn can enhance immune system function and potentially improve mood and cognitive function.Enhancing Workout Recovery with CollagenFor fitness enthusiasts, collagen supplements are a game-changer. They play a significant role in muscle repair and recovery post-exercise. Collagen's amino acids help rebuild muscle fibers, reduce soreness, and speed up recovery time. This makes it an ideal supplement for athletes or anyone with an active lifestyle.Additionally, collagen supports the health and resilience of connective tissues, such as tendons and ligaments, which are crucial for physical activity. This can lead to improved performance and a decreased risk of injury, allowing for a more consistent and effective workout routine.Collagen's Role in Bone HealthBone health is another significant benefit of taking collagen supplements. Collagen forms a large part of bone structure, providing strength and flexibility. As we age and collagen production decreases, bones can become more brittle and susceptible to fractures. Supplementing with collagen can help maintain bone density and strength, which is especially important for postmenopausal women who are at a higher risk for osteoporosis.Regular collagen supplementation can also support the body's natural bone repair processes, making it a valuable addition to the diet for maintaining long-term bone health.A Holistic Approach to AgingIn conclusion, collagen supplements offer a holistic approach to aging and overall wellness. They not only enhance outer beauty through healthier skin, hair, and nails but also contribute significantly to internal health by improving gut health, joint function, muscle recovery, and bone density. Incorporating a high-quality collagen supplement, like the multi-collagen peptides from reputable brands, into your daily routine can be a simple yet effective step towards a healthier, more vibrant life.Boost Muscle MassAccording to proponents, they believe that taking collagen supplements helps to promote faster metabolism and helps with weight loss. Although their claim has no theory backing it. However, the effects of collagen dealing with weight loss and muscle building are quite positive. Promote Heart Health As per research, it has been seen that collagen supplements have the potential to reduce the risk of certain heart conditions. These supplements provide a proper structure to the arteries, which helps in the easy flow of blood from the heart to the rest of the body. So, without these collagen supplements, the arteries might feel stiff and less flexible, which might also lead to atherosclerosis. It is a disease that is characterized by the narrowing of the arteries, which will eventually lead to a heart stroke or heart attack. Strengthen your hair and nailsIt is highly possible that taking collagen supplements might strengthen and increase your hair and nail quality. People have reported that they have been dealing with less hair breakage and loss ever since they started taking collagen supplements. So, believing it might also promote hair growth and strength is not as farfetched. Help support weight lossIf you can believe the proponents, then they think collagen supplements are great for maintaining body mass since they promote weight loss. Although there are no studies or theories to support this argument. However, there is high potential to support this claim, but further in-depth research is needed to verify this theory properly. What Foods Are Rich In Collagen? There are certain food types that contain high quantities of collagen, so you can take them other than taking collagen supplements. These foods are. Bone brothGelatinChicken skin BeefConnective tissues of animalsPork skinFish Any type of Vitamin C is great for collagen synthesis. So, any food group that contains a high amount of Vitamin C, such as citrus fruits, strawberries, broccoli, and others, is great for you. Conclusion With their diverse range of benefits, collagen supplements are not just a trend but a practical addition to a health-conscious lifestyle. Whether you are looking to improve your physical appearance, boost your workout recovery, or support your body’s overall functioning, collagen supplements can be a valuable ally in your wellness journey.Read More...Is It Ok To Drink Apple Cider Vinegar? Is It Ok To Eat Brown Avocado? Is It Ok To Eat Oatmeal Every Day?

Running a successful restaurant involves more than just crafting a tempting menu or creating a welcoming atmosphere. The backbone of any great restaurant is its kitchen—the bustling hub where culinary magic happens. For this magic to be consistently realized, it's essential to have the right equipment in place. This article delves into the vital pieces of equipment that ensure smooth restaurant kitchen operations.1. Efficient Food Preparation StationsEfficiency in food preparation is key to a restaurant's success. One indispensable piece of equipment in this area is the commercial sandwich table. Ideal for sandwich or salad preparation, it combines refrigerated storage with a convenient worktop, allowing chefs to assemble dishes quickly without compromising on freshness. Additionally, other food prep equipment like food processors, mixers, and slicing machines streamline the prep process, enabling kitchen staff to work swiftly and effectively.Besides specialized prep equipment, quality cutting surfaces and an array of knives are fundamental. Durable, easy-to-clean cutting boards, along with a complete set of sharp, well-maintained knives, are essential for any kitchen to function smoothly. This not only speeds up prep time but also ensures safety and precision in every chop, slice, and dice.2. Reliable Cooking AppliancesThe heart of the kitchen's operations lies in its cooking appliances. Commercial-grade ovens, stoves, and grills are indispensable for a high-functioning kitchen. These appliances must be powerful and reliable to handle the continuous, high-volume cooking that restaurants demand. Consistency in temperature and cooking quality is crucial for dishing out impeccable meals every time.In addition to the primary cooking appliances, specialized equipment like deep fryers, griddles, and steamers add versatility to the kitchen, allowing for a wider range of menu items. These appliances need to be regularly maintained and cleaned to ensure they operate at peak efficiency, contributing to the overall smooth running of the kitchen.3. Effective Food Storage SolutionsProper food storage is vital for maintaining food quality and safety. Commercial refrigerators and freezers are essential for keeping ingredients fresh and preventing spoilage. They come in various sizes and styles, including walk-in units for larger storage needs, ensuring that every kitchen can find a solution that fits its space and requirements.Dry storage is equally important. Shelving units must be sturdy, spacious, and well-organized to store non-perishable ingredients and kitchen supplies. Efficient storage solutions help in maintaining a clutter-free and orderly kitchen, which is crucial for a smooth operation.4. Sanitation and Cleaning EquipmentSanitation is non-negotiable in any food service establishment. High-quality dishwashing equipment, including commercial dishwashers, sinks, and drying racks, are central to keeping the kitchen hygienic. These machines need to be fast and efficient, handling large volumes of dishes while ensuring thorough cleaning and sanitization.Beyond dishwashing, the kitchen should be equipped with ample cleaning supplies and tools. This includes everything from sanitizers and cleaning agents to mops, brooms, and trash bins. A clean and sanitary kitchen is not only a health requirement but also improves the overall workflow and operational efficiency.5. Safety and Ergonomic ToolsLastly, ensuring safety and comfort in the kitchen is essential. This includes heat-resistant gloves, non-slip mats, and adequate ventilation systems. Ergonomic design in kitchen tools and equipment reduces the risk of injuries and enhances the staff's productivity by making their work environment more comfortable and safe.Safety equipment like fire extinguishers and first-aid kits should be easily accessible. Training staff on safety protocols and the proper use of equipment is equally crucial for a smooth and safe kitchen operation.Things You Should Consider Before Buying Kitchen EssentialsTo operate a restaurant successfully, you have to get numerous pieces of equipment. The list is going to be extensive. We understand that there are plenty of things to buy, but do not rush into it. Take your time and think about what would be best for your restaurant type and space. Before tackling the list of kitchen equipment, you should consider the following things.QualityBefore buying any equipment, check for the quality of it. Check if the product is used or brand new. If the product is new, check who the manufacturer is. Whether they are reputed or not. If you are getting used equipment, check how old they are and where they are coming from.Make sure that you take a look at it yourself before buying, and think about which type of restaurants you want to use regularly. For those, it is best to get the highest-quality materials you can.Space considerationBefore you buy any equipment, think of the blueprint of the restaurant. Try to figure out a layout in your mind, and imagine how your team is going to move around the place. Make sure that the place does not get overly crowded.Make sure that the layout is efficient so the flow of movement is even. Check the dimensions of the equipment and make sure that they fit through all the kitchen doors.PricingPricing is a crucial consideration that you need to make when you are buying equipment. Think about which are the most important pieces and which pieces you are going to use regularly. The equipment that you are going to use regularly needs a higher price tag, as you need to buy good quality of those items. But for the other items you can choose to save some money.Ease in cleaning and usingYou need to make sure any equipment you buy makes sense to the cooks. Think about their cleaning process and how they need to be cleaned daily, weekly as well as monthly. In that way, you can train the staff.Choose the correct supplierThis is an important consideration that you have to make while buying essential equipment for the kitchen. If you choose a good supplier, you automatically make sure that the products are made from high-quality materials. Also, do not forget to ask whether they would help with the installation process of the equipment, as well as their repair and maintenance policies. Hire a plannerIt is best to hire a planner if you are opening a new restaurant or completely redecorating and renovating it. This would be a great help for you, as your entire workload will be released. They will ask you about the menu and the design you want and plan everything accordingly.Check the leasing optionIt is already expensive to open a restaurant, so you can try to lease some of the essential equipment to save some cost. It will allow you to pay a monthly amount rather than paying a hefty amount all at once. Conclusion: The Key to a High-Performing KitchenIn summary, equipping a restaurant kitchen with the right tools is fundamental to its success. From efficient prep stations, including the all-important commercial sandwich table, to reliable cooking appliances, effective storage, and stringent sanitation measures, each component plays a pivotal role. Incorporating ergonomic and safety tools further enhances the kitchen's performance. Investing in these essential pieces of equipment ensures not just smooth operations but also contributes to the overall satisfaction of both staff and customers. Is it ok to drink apple cider vinegar? This, indeed, is a complicated question. I mean, a lot of us feel like apple cider vinegar is extremely good for our health, but is it really the case? For thousands of years, people have been using this one product for cooking and other medical benefits. There are a number of people who claim that it has several health benefits, which include losing weight, improving sugar levels in the blood, relief from indigestion, and a lesser risk of any heart disease and even cancer. With a number of potential uses, it may be tough to know how much apple cider you are supposed to take every day. The recommendations for dosage may vary from one person to the other, but consuming one to two tablespoons of it with water after or before meals may give you good results. In this article, we shall see if it is at all ok to drink apple cider vinegar and, if so, how much and how to drink it in the safest way possible. What Is Apple Cider Vinegar?Apple cider vinegar is a combination of apples and yeast. The yeast helps convert the sugar in the apple into alcohol. Then, bacteria are added to this mixture to ferment the alcohol into acetic acid. Acetic acid concentration in apple cider vinegar makes up for around 5-6% of it. It is classified as a weak acid but has quite strong acidic properties when in its concentrated state. Apart from being an acetic acid, vinegar also contains water along with trace amounts of acids, minerals, and vitamins. A number of studies have found that apple cider vinegar promotes the burning of fat. As a result, it largely helps in losing weight. It is also very effective in lowering the sugar level in the blood, increasing insulin sensitivity, and improving cholesterol levels. However, it is pretty unfortunate that there are not many studies that support the regular use of apple cider vinegar. “Apple cider vinegar is made from acetic acid, which may contribute to weight loss and health benefits such as lower blood sugar and healthier cholesterol levels.” Types Of Apple Cider VinegarBefore I jump to the conclusion on whether it is ok to drink apple cider vinegar, let me throw some light on the different types of apple cider vinegar that are available in the market. A lot of people are not even aware that there are different types of apple ciders that are available for them. Not knowing which one is the best suit for consumption may result in severe health issues. Apple cider vinegar is made through a process known as fermentation, as I previously discussed. Most of the apple cider vinegars that you find in a regular store are pasteurized, clear, and filtered. But you may also get the unfiltered and raw apple cider vinegar, which has a cloudy sediment in it. Known as “the mother,” this sediment is composed of the settled yeast and bacteria. Some experts give the entire credit to the mother for the health benefits that come with apple cider vinegar. It is presumed to contain minimal amounts of probiotics, which are very good for your gut health. However, there is no research that would assure that the mother actually has any health benefit. The acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar may also be partially responsible for any of the health benefits that it offers. However, there are other types of vinegars that also offer the benefits of acetic acid. You may also purchase apple cider vinegar powders, pills, or gummies. However, there is hardly any research that can confirm that these supplements are actually effective. As the FDA does not regulate any dietary supplements, no one can be sure what exactly lies in them. Is It Ok To Drink Apple Cider Vinegar?Apple cider vinegar contains some really helpful properties, mainly because of its acetic acid content. “Acetic acid is a really important metabolite in our bodies, and the only dietary source of acetic acid is vinegar,” says Carol Johnston, Ph.D., associate dean and professor of nutrition at the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University. However, as a cure-all, apple cider vinegar holds scientific scrutiny. “We don’t have evidence to back up a lot of the claims,” Johnston says. Advantages Of Apple Cider Vinegar Most of the studies that support apple cider vinegar are pretty minor, and the results have not been decisive either. We definitely need a lot more solid proof that would confirm why apple cider vinegar is actually beneficial upon consumption. This is what research has found so far: Helps With Weight LossOne study has found that drinking apple cider vinegar twice every day has helped individuals follow a reduced-calorie diet and lose a couple of extra pounds. But the was quite short-termed and small. It only followed 39 people and only for 12 weeks. Some researchers believe that the acetic acid in apple cider vinegar helps speed up the metabolism. However, the data did not bear this. It might have happened that people lost more weight due to the placebo effect. Or maybe the acetic acid made them suffer from nausea, causing them to eat comparatively less. “Drinking 1–2 tbsp. (15–30 mL) of apple cider vinegar each day for several months may increase weight loss in people with overweight. However, more research is needed.” Lowering Blood Sugar LevelsThere are a number of smaller studies that confirm that taking a spoon or two full of apple cider vinegar after meals can help reduce sugar levels in the blood. However, the effect was certainly moderate, and we definitely need a lot more research to find out exactly how it happens. Remember that apple cider vinegar can never be a replacement for your diabetes medicines and a healthy lifestyle. If you at all want to incorporate apple cider vinegar into your diet, make sure to consult your doctor before doing anything as such. “Drinking four tsp. (20 mL) Apple cider vinegar diluted in water immediately before a high-carb meal can reduce blood sugar spikes.” It Can Lower CholesterolThe very same study that claimed that apple cider vinegar helps in losing weight claimed that apple cider vinegar also helps in lowering cholesterol in the body. It also helps increase “good” cholesterol levels and lowers triglyceride levels. There are other studies that came up with the exact results. However, none of these research studies are completely accurate. Hence, it is better to not fully rely on these as they may have adverse effects on your health. Helps With Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) PCOS is a hormonal condition associated with high levels of androgen hormones, abnormal menstrual cycles, insulin resistance, and ovarian cysts. As per an older study, it was found that females suffering from PCOS who drank 15mL of apple cider vinegar with 100mL of water after dinner saw an improvement in their hormonal levels and experienced periods that were more regular. While we still need a lot more research to confirm this fact, one tbsp of apple cider vinegar is a safe option to have control over PCOS. “Regularly drinking 1 tbsp. (15 mL) of apple cider vinegar with about 7 oz. (100 mL) of water after dinner may improve symptoms of PCOS.” Improving DigestionMany people prefer incorporating apple cider vinegar into their daily routine to improve digestion. The theory behind it says that apple cider vinegar increases the stomach acidity. This allows for the body to create more pepsin, the enzyme that helps break down protein. While we still do not have any solid research that can confirm the use of apple cider vinegar to boost digestion, acidic supplements like betaine HCL may help increase the acidity of the stomach. “Some claim drinking 1 to 2 tbsp. (15–30 mL) of apple cider vinegar before meals can aid digestion. However, there is currently no research to support this practice.” General WellnessAmong the many other popular reasons as to why one prefers to consume apple cider vinegar is its benefit against heart diseases, fighting infection, and reducing the risks of cancer. There is very little scientific evidence that could support this kind of claim. We do not yet have any recommended dose that would best suit the human body. There are animal tests and test-tube studies that confirm that apple cider vinegar may help reduce the risk of cancer, reduce heart diseases, and slow bacterial growth. But none of it has yet been tested on humans. “There is no evidence that apple cider vinegar can protect against heart disease, cancer, or infection in humans, so no dosage recommendations can be made.” Drawbacks Of Apple Cider VinegarYou surely did not assume that there are no drawbacks to consuming a product that does not even have enough research done on it. There are certain benefits that you may get from consuming apple cider vinegar. However, it has drawbacks, too. Let us now have a look at the negative effects that apple cider vinegar may have on the human body. Delay In Emptying The StomachA couple of very small studies in humans have proved that apple cider vinegar can reduce the time food takes to leave the stomach and enter the lower digestive tract. This may slow down the absorption of nutrients into our bloodstream. However, this may actually worsen the symptoms of gastroparesis, a very common issue that affects people who have diabetes. In gastroparesis, the nerves in the stomach do not properly work. Therefore, the food stays in there for a long time and does not empty at a normal rate. “Research suggests apple cider vinegar may slow the rate at which food leaves the stomach. This may worsen symptoms of gastroparesis and make blood sugar management more difficult for people with type 1 diabetes.” Digestive Side EffectsFor some people, apple cider vinegar may cause unfriendly digestive symptoms. There are some researchers who claim that in the short term, acetic acid helps in decreasing appetite. But we need more studies that would help us understand if this effect will continue in the long term. However, there is one study that suggests that in certain cases, food intake and appetite may be reduced because of indigestion. “Apple cider vinegar may help reduce appetite, but it may also cause feelings of nausea, particularly when consumed as part of a drink with an unpleasant flavor.” Bone Loss And Low Potassium LevelsWe do not have any controlled study on the effects of apple cider vinegar on potassium levels in blood and bone health at present. However, there is just one case report of low blood potassium and loss of bone attributing to big doses of apple cider vinegar over a long period of time. “There is one case report of low potassium levels and osteoporosis, which is likely caused by drinking too much apple cider vinegar.” Erosion Of The Tooth EnamelBeverages and acidic foods may also damage tooth enamel. Fruit juices and soft drinks are more widely studied, but some researchers claim that the acetic acid present in apple cider vinegar may also result in damaged tooth enamel. “The acetic acid in vinegar may weaken dental enamel and lead to loss of minerals and tooth decay.” Throat BurnsThis is one of the most common complaints that people have against apple cider vinegar. Apple cider has a high potential to result in esophageal burns, or as we commonly call it, throat burns. A review of harmful liquids that children accidentally swallowed showed that acetic acid present in vinegar was the primary acid that results in throat burns. “The acetic acid in apple cider vinegar has caused throat burns in children. One woman experienced throat burns after an apple cider vinegar tablet became lodged in her esophagus.” The Bottom LineIt is common for people to ask is it ok to drink apple cider vinegar. By now, you know that there are no proven benefits to it. So, even if you are drinking it, there are no solid claims that it will help you achieve the results you are looking for. A small amount of apple cider vinegar may still be acceptable, but drinking it in large amounts every day may have adverse effects on your body. Therefore, it is important to monitor how much and how you consume, if at all you consume it on a daily basis. While it may look all good and fresh from the outside, the insides might be brown. It may happen to anyone. So, what to do in that case? Do you throw it away? Or would you eat it? If you do, is it ok to eat brown avocado?Well, our first instinct might be to throw it away. However, that would be a big mistake that you would be committing there. It is important that you realize that every brown avocado is not bad. In fact, most of the brown avocados are perfectly fine to eat. The brown color does not indicate that the avocado is spoiled. In this article we will discuss why is it actually safe to have a brown avocado and how you would actually judge that the avocado is bad. We will take the opinions of Savannah Braden. She is a popular biological scientist and also the associate director of technology at Apeel Sciences. So, without any more delay, let us see what all is there that you need to know about a brown avocado. Is It Ok To Eat Brown Avocado? As long as the avocado is in a good condition, there is nothing wrong in eating it even if it has a brown color. You might be thinking if anything was to happen to you if you ate a brown avocado? Well, nothing much. As per Savannah Braden,"although the slightly-browned flesh of the once vibrantly green fruit might not be as easy on the eyes, it's simply a result of a safe (and naturally-occurring) chemical reaction known as enzymatic browning.""There can be a few different causes of browning,"Braden says."Internal browning of the flesh generally happens after you cut open an avocado because this disrupts the cells of the fruit, releasing enzymes that react with oxygen and other compounds in the fruit to create the brown coloring. While it may look a little ugly, it's totally safe to eat an avocado that goes brown after you've cut it,"she confirms. So, it is absolutely okay for you to have a bite of that brown avocado that you just cut open. There is no need to throw it away and waste money. How Can You Tell That An Avocado Has Actually Gone Bad?For beginners, it is nearly impossible to tell if an avocado has gone bad just by seeing it from the outside. However, we did some work on it. To make things further easier, we have come up with some effective ways in which you may figure out if the avocado has gone bad.Overly Soft With Dents On Its SkinWhen you check for ripeness, use your palm to squeeze the fruit very gently. Do not press it with your fingers. This will bruise the flesh. If the avocado is too firm and does not give at all, it is surely underripe. If it gives just a bit, it is probably ripe and all set to eat. However, if your squeeze leaves a tiny indication, it may be way too ripe for slicing and will be better mashed. The avocado is possibly spoiled or overripe if squeezing leaves a big dent, and it feels mushy.Blackened Skin Some varieties of avocados go through a direct change in the color of their skin as they ripen. This happens mainly in the Hass variety. It accounts for around 80 percent of avocados that the world eats. When not properly ripe, Hass appears with bright and bumpy green skin. It shifts to dark green or even brown, then fully ripe. If the skin appears almost black and the fruit feels very mushy when you touch it, it's possibly soiled.Stringy, Dark Flesh When you cut an avocado, it is easy to decide if it has gone bad. Obviously, this is the only suitable choice after you purchase it. An avocado that is set to eat has a nice pale green flesh. A rotten one, however, has black or brown spots across the flesh. If you see a single-colored spot on the fruit, that is probably because of bruising. You can cut and throw it away and eat the rest of it.Even then, certain avocados, like the ones harvested from younger trees, may have darker streaks. This does not mean that the fruit is not rotten. If it looks fine and the taste does not feel off, it's okay to eat it.Odor or FlavorRipe avocados give a pleasant smell. It has a pretty sweet smell and a nutty flavor. As it starts to spoil, it may grow a bad odor and taste. If it gives out a sour smell or taste, there is a chance of bacterial spoilage. It means it's time to throw it away. If the avocado has a chemical taste or smell, it means it's rancid. This happens when microbes or oxygen damage or break down the unsaturated fat in the fruit.Mold Molds are usually gray or white on avocados and appear fuzzy. Try not to smell it. You may then inhale mold spores. It will trigger breathing issues if you are allergic to it.Make sure you do not purchase avocados with mold on the outside. It can easily penetrate through the skin and result in decay. If you ever cut an avocado open and see mold, throw the entire fruit out. While you may see it in only one place, it spreads quite fast. Do not try to salvage it.Preventing An Avocado From Browning MoreThe best way in which you can keep your avocado from going bad is keeping them in a place where pretty carefully in the kitchen."When avocados are ripening, it's best to keep them on a shelf out of direct sunlight and away from extreme heat or cold. When you buy Apeel avocados, the bonus is that they keep their freshness and ripeness for longer without needing refrigeration. Apeel adds a layer of tasteless, odorless, plant-based protection on the surface that helps keep moisture in and oxygen out, which means produce lasts twice as long,"Braden added. If you are looking for a way to keep your precious food more protected, we've got your back as well."After an avocado has ripened, it will start to decay or senesce. This decay process can be slowed by keeping avocados away from fruit that produces ethylene. It is a plant hormone that triggers ripening and then senescence in fruits—like bananas and tomatoes, and by putting the ripe avocados in the fridge,"as per the recommendations of Braden. How To Know That The Avocado Is All Set To Eat Before Cracking It Open?"You can usually tell if your avocado is ripe by giving it a squeeze between your palm and fingers. If it has a mild give, it's ready to eat. If it's too firm, it may still be ripening. On the other hand, if it's too squishy, it may be a little past its prime—but perfect for making guacamole,"Braden adds. The Bottom LineIs it ok to eat brown avocado? Well, yes. There is nothing wrong with eating a brown avocado. However, you need to make sure that the avocado is actually good to eat. As long as that is okay, you can have a good munch of the mushy and beautiful fruit.Need More Interesting Article Click Below!!Is It Ok To Eat Raw Eggs?Is It Ok To Workout When Sore?Is It Ok To Eat Oatmeal Every Day?

Growing up, I remember my mother telling me never to eat the raw batter of cakes or cookies. The reason? Well, both of them contained raw eggs. Therefore, eating raw eggs was always out of bounds. However, now, I see multiple cuisines that add raw eggs to their recipes. So many people even claim that raw eggs make the food even more delicious. But is it really the truth? Is it ok to eat raw eggs? I have been in a dilemma for the longest time till I decided that I want to look further into the topic. If I am putting raw food in my mouth, I would have to know anything and everything there is about the food. And when it comes to eggs, I can never be too sure. As someone who does not prefer eating even half boiled eggs, I will always be skeptical about eating raw eggs. However, you have nothing to worry about. I did a lot of research and came up with the answer to, “Is it ok to eat raw eggs?”Is It Ok To Eat Raw Eggs? While you may have seen multiple videos of people eating raw eggs with their ramen noodles, I would not say that it is indeed a very healthy practice. There are quite a few drawbacks to eating raw eggs. The most serious of them all is Salmonella food poisoning.Salmonellosis is a foodborne illness that happens because of the Salmonella bacteria. It causes fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. This bacteria may be found on the outer shell as well as inside raw eggs. Salmonella dies easily from heat. This is the reason why undercooked or raw eggs are way more riskier in comparison to cooked and boiled eggs. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gives an estimation that more than 1 million people in the US fall sick every year because of Salmonella poisoning from eating raw eggs. While it is common for some people to recover from it within a week, approximately 400 people die from Salmonella poisoning every year.Older people, or the ones who are suffering from diseases like HIV, AIDS, or cancer, must stay away from raw eggs.“It’s not super common — 1 in 20,000 eggs has Salmonella,” says Beth Czerwony, LD, RD. “But you don’t want to be the person who eats that one egg.”The side effects, as I mentioned, may seem pretty basic, but that is something you need to be scared of. “You can get diarrhea and cramps. You may start vomiting. That can cause you to get dehydrated. You really could have some severe health issues.”Salmonella infection is not only limited to eating raw eggs. Raw meat, or any such unwashed products, are prominent sources of the Salmonella bacteria. Are There Any Benefits Of Eating Raw Eggs? An egg, in itself, is one of the healthiest choices you can make when it comes to food. Egg whites are extensive sources of protein. Meanwhile, the yolk is rich in nutrients and has healthy fats along with a number of vitamins. The egg yolk also has choline in it, which is very good for the eyes. However, all of these benefits you can get even if you are eating a boiled or a well cooked egg. So, there is no point in putting yourself at risk and getting infected from a disease that is fatal to some level. In simpler words, even if you are buying eggs straight from the Pasteur, it is still not safe to eat them raw. This is a lot like a case where “if you want, you can, but you should not.”“Nutritionally, there’s no benefit of eating a raw egg versus a cooked egg,” adds Czerwony.“You don’t lose any nutrition from cooking it. If you are worrying about salmonella, it’s going to die in the cooking process.”Effects Of Eating Raw EggsIt is quite harmless to eat raw eggs, only as long as there is no Salmonella in it. However, eating it raw may be a pretty nauseating experience. Trust me, I hated it. I was on the verge of putting detergent in my mouth.“It might make you feel gross because it’s kind of slimy,” says Czerwony. “But raw eggs are basically just protein. That’s really why people are eating raw eggs — to get that extra protein in without doing shakes.”If you are only willing to eat raw eggs because of protein, there are other options you may try out. It will never be better for you to have a raw egg than having a protein shake. There are multiple grains, vegetables, and even meat, which may increase the protein content in your diet. Raw egg is not the only resort. How To Reduce The Risk Of Salmonella Infection? It is common for people to be concerned about why or how people still consume raw eggs when it is actually this risky. Luckily, there are a few ways in which you may be able to avoid the risk of having a salmonella infection from eating raw eggs:Buy eggs that are pasteurized. They may be available in supermarkets.Only buy the eggs that are available in the refrigerated food aisle at the grocery store. At home, keep the eggs in a refrigerator. Keeping them at room temperature increases the chance for them to grow harmful bacteria.Do not eat or buy eggs once their expiration date is over.Throw away the dirty eggs or the ones with a crack on them.Wash your hands or anything that may have been in contact with the raw eggs. While these are the steps that may be helpful, there is no guarantee that doing these will help you prevent Salmonella infection. The one way you can kill the bacteria is by heat, and there is no chance that you will put the egg under heat if you are planning to eat it raw. Therefore, the risks are never zero. The Bottom Line Is it ok to eat raw eggs? Never! While I do understand the obsession to get more protein, raw eggs can never be an option. There is absolutely no difference in the amount of protein that you can get from raw eggs and cooked eggs.Rather, the consumption of raw eggs puts you at a risk of developing Salmonella infection, which in some cases may be deadly. Hence, there is no reason why you should be putting yourself at risk by eating something that you always knew was unhealthy for the body.Continue Reading:Is It Okay To Have A Hot Shower With Fever? Is It Okay To Eat Apple Before Bed?
