Just because someone identifies as bisexual, you must not assume that they are only allowed to date men or women. You must be more open and thoughtful while trying to understand the attraction variations of bisexuality. Bisexuality Is Only A Phase, Or Simply Denial No, they are not! What is wrong with you? Bisexuality is a legitimate sexual orientation. Gay or lesbian are not the only ones to exist out there. It is extremely biphobic to say that bisexuality is only a phase. No, not all bisexual people come out as gays or lesbians in the future. It is disheartening how people conceive bisexuality as an experiment or transition. Yes, it is true that a fair percentage of people who initially came out as bisexual later realized they were gay or lesbian, but that doesn't necessarily mean that bisexuality is not valid. A lot of people have come out as bisexual and remained the same till the end. Bisexual People Are More Inclined To Cheat The more I write these, the more I realize the seriousness of homophobia in our society. And honestly, it is scary. Just because someone is attracted to both genders does not mean that they cannot remain loyal. I have seen some of the most straight people with partners and kids back at home cheat with not even a hint of shame in their eyes. So yes, bisexuality, in no way, is related to infidelity! Only women are bisexual. Well, no? Men Are Bisexual Too Let us please break this stereotype and accept the fact that men can be bisexual, too. They are just less likely to open up about it. Compared to bisexual women and gay men, only 12% of bisexual men have felt comfortable about opening up about their bisexuality. While there are no concrete answers to this yet, it could be the social stigma that prevents men from openly coming out as bisexual. The Journey Of Coming Out The journey of self-discovery and coming out is beautiful and scary as well. We live in a society where Homosexuality is frowned upon. So, it is not surprising to hear that people feel extremely scared to come out with their own sexualities. The fear of rejection and abandonment is real. While some of us are open and accepting about our sexualities, a lot of them are not. Significantly, when we have been growing up believing that only the Prince can marry the Princess or that Barbie only dates Ken, it is tough for us to accept a certain few realities about ourselves. Coming out is a personal decision. And no one, under any circumstance, can force you to come out if you are not ready. "I came out to my mother at 18, in the coffee shop of a fancy Sydney department store. I'd become a raging student activist, dying my hair blue and getting regrettable facial piercings. I think my mum assumed the fact I'd fallen in love with my best friend would be another attention-seeking phase." It is very common for people to assume that rebellious kids go through a phase of bisexuality. It's deep-rooted and kind of sad. "It wasn't: I was deeply, wildly, in love. "Can you tell Dad and William?" I'd mumbled into my iced chocolate, partly to avoid the awkwardness of discussing my sex life with my father and little brother, and partly because I was lazy." Well, this was a little fun. We are all lazy creatures, after all. There is one thing that you must always remember. Before coming out to the world, you need to come out to yourself. That is the biggest step there is. Once you have accepted who you are, nothing else matters. WRAPPING UP Bisexuality is just as legit as being gay or lesbian. It is not a phase or a state of confusion. Bisexual people are attracted to two or more genders, and it is totally normal. A bisexual test is something you can take online and get confirmation if you are bisexual or not. Even if you do not take one, that doesn't make you any less bisexual. Every person who has once gone through the situation that I am about to talk about would know how painful it is to stay complicated and confused about who you are. Complications related to your sexual orientation are tremendously hard to deal with, and the journey in itself is torture. It is not bad; it is just torturing. And why wouldn't it be? When you grow up in an environment where you have been exposed to a concept where you are allowed to be attracted to only the opposite gender, breaking through could never be easy. The fear of rejection, abandonment, bullying - all of it hits you like a bullet train. I can confirm this because I have gone through the same. I fought with myself for three years before I could finally accept who I was from within. For some, coming out is easy, while for some of us, it is not. For us, coming out took a lot of effort and pain before we could finally decide to throw it out of the window and accept ourselves the way we are. Now, coming to a gay test, I will definitely not be confirmed if they are entirely accurate as they work differently for different people. While some people have found the best results by taking a gay test, some felt that it was better for them to figure out that they were gay on their own. So, without any more delay, let me throw some more light on what a gay test is and explore more on the journey of self-discovery. What Is The "Am I Gay Test"? Let me first mention that a gay test is not something you take at a hospital or a clinic, and a doctor would definitely not confirm if you are gay. That would be pretty funny, wouldn't it? Jokes apart, a gay test is just another quiz available on the interest for you to take. There are multiple questions that you have to answer that will apparently determine if you are attracted to a man. However, I cannot guarantee the accuracy of these tests; no one can actually. Any accurate information does not back these tests. They are fun to participate in. I have done it too. But then again, what test can give you a better affirmation than your own instincts? No amount of tests can confirm if you are gay or not unless you are convinced yourself. You have to reach a certain level of self-confirmation before you take a test as such. If you are at least not partly sure of your sexual orientation, you will tend to give wrong answers so the test comes out straight deliberately. So, while a gay test is not completely wrong, you must not take it if you are struggling to accept your sexuality, as the test will mess your head up even more. Were you ever curious about the body of someone of your same sex? Now that we have talked enough about a gay test, let us explore a little more about being gay and why there is no shame in having a different sexual orientation than others. It will only be fair if you are well aware of your sexuality before you invest your time in a gay test. The Gay Awakening A lot of us grow up thinking we are straight as a stick, only to later realize that we are not. There are many ways by which you can slowly start realizing that you may be gay. A lot of people have confirmed that their "gay awakening," as we like to call it, started with sex dreams with someone of the same gender. Having a dream as such will be pretty tortuous at the beginning. You would wake up questioning every single thing you saw in the dream, and trust me when I say this: you will not be forgetting the things you saw in the dream anytime soon. However, it is not a mandate that will always start with a dream. There are other factors like deep sexual thoughts or an intense attraction towards someone of the same gender as you. But having such feelings is not an assurance that you are gay. This could only be a mere attraction. Sometimes, attractions are too intense to comprehend. Therefore, dreams or thoughts can never guarantee that you are gay or not. Am I Really Gay? Well, if you are here asking me this, then you have the answer already; you are just not ready to accept it yet. And that is absolutely OK. Accepting your true sexuality is tough. We live in a so stern society that breaking through is hard. The walls are made so high that it takes every drop of our mental sanity to accept who we indeed are. It is actually surprising how, after years of evolution, people are still so closed when it comes to an individual's sexual orientation. One of the biggest reasons why people get scared to accept who they are is because of the fear that is instilled in their heads since they were born, and we were never allowed to question such norms, either. Why does it always have to be Barbie and Ken? Why can it not be Barbie and Barbie or Ken and Ken? Maybe if we did, and our parents questioned it too, things would have been a lot more different than what it is today. Perhaps the world would then be a much better place to live in. Am I Gay Or Bisexual? Okay, this is a legitimate question indeed. Due to the lack of proper awareness, people sometimes tend to confuse being gay and bisexual. While being gay means a man having both emotional and sexual attraction towards a man, being bisexual means being attracted towards both men and women. A lot of people, while on their journey of self-discovery, initially feel that they may be bisexual but later on realize they are gay. This doesn't mean that bisexuality is only a phase. Some people are inherently bisexual and remain the same for the rest of their lives. Just like being gay or lesbian, bisexuality is also a valid sexual orientation, and there is no debate about it. Stories Of Coming Out! Coming out is one the most brave decisions that you can ever make. Michael Brunman (he/him/his), Class of 2023 "When my six-year relationship ended in 2020, I felt distraught and lost. Growing up in a traditional, religious, and sometimes machista Mexican culture, this relationship allowed me to accept and embrace the relationship with the men in my life. I dared to love bravely and vulnerably in an environment where doing so is often taboo. Family is an important pillar of Mexican communities. After my breakup, I resorted to the love and support of my family, only to realize that the people who are important in my life, like my dad, did not truly know me. This was not a product of his lack of curiosity. I kept him at the peripheries of my life because Mexican men were often raised to mask emotions and shield moments of openness. Was I really a proud and openly gay man if everyone, except my dad, knew? My apá is a stoic man; he has never been a man of many words or emotions. A lot of us often feel scared to come out to our close ones for fear that they will not accept us the way we are. But how wrong can we be? Well, this is a clear example! Patric Cao (he/him/his), Class of 2023 "The summer after graduating high school, I was 18 and curious about my sexuality; I decided to give myself seven days of freedom. I searched the internet for a place to connect with others my age who were also exploring. I found a well-known gay dating website where, for the first time in my life, I spoke with multiple guys my age and felt relieved to know that I was not alone. On the last day of my "seven days of freedom," I was invited by one of my new friends from the website to join him for a Saturday hangout and visit the LGBTQ+ youth center in Tel Aviv, Israel. I hesitated and stayed home that day. As I was watching the evening news, I learned that an anonymous murderer entered that youth center and murdered two of its visitors. To this day, he hasn't been identified or caught. Feeling that the gun had been aimed at me, too, I was scared and felt alone in this world. No one knew what was going through my mind these days because no one knew that I could have been there myself that night. While I was scared about the meaning of being true to myself, a few weeks later, I decided that it was a price worth paying and came out in front of my family and friends. I allowed myself to continue and live my life truly, not just for seven days. A few years after the shooting, I returned to that same center as a guide, helping other youth cope with the challenges of coming out of the closet." Coming out is a personal decision, and people must come out on their own terms and not by force. It is okay to take your time. It is okay to not come out at all. Nothing else matters if you have come out to yourself and accept yourself the way you are! Wrapping Up Your sexual orientation does not define who you are as a person. It is only a part of you, and you must keep it that way to avoid any unnecessary mental stress. Yes, it is easier said than done, but then again, you must not do anything that messes up your mental health. That is being toxic to yourself. Coming to a gay test, you are free to take one only if you can promise yourself that you are going to be absolutely honest throughout and not give false answers. If you have been skipping your exercises until now, this might come as a surprise to you. Delve deeper into the article as I take you to the most interesting topic regarding health and hygiene. Advantages Of Working Out On Period: Why Must You Do It? Search the Internet, and you will find an end number of articles stating do’s and don'ts when you are menstruating. While some of them are accurate, you do not always have to believe them. Exercising while period-ing is not a new concept and certainly offers physical benefits. I categorize people generally into two types- ones that love running in the rain, and the others that will see the slightest bit of clouds in the sky and will straight be like, "No thanks!". While some people don't really enjoy the water-clogged clothes and soggy shoes, some live off the thrill of running in the rain. I do, at least. The calm and the adrenaline that you will have while it showers from the sky, washing every inch of your body, feels phenomenal. Running in the rain practically has no downsides. Races are never canceled due to rain, so there is no reason why you must cancel your running schedule just because it is pouring outside. However, there are certain precautions that you must take while running in the rain to make sure that you are totally safe and don't end up falling sick or hurting yourself in the process. So, without any further delay, let us explore more about running in the rain and why you must do it more often. Is Running In The Rain Safe? Practically speaking, it is safe to run in the rain. However, it would be best if you always looked out for storming, lightning, or downpouring, as said by Audrey Springer, who is a certified running coach at Relentless Runners. "Runners should always check the weather forecast the night before their runs," comments Rayn Miller, head running coach, at Maverick Running Community. "This will help you determine when to schedule your run to avoid dangerous conditions." However, it is safe to go running in the rain; your performance might take a hit. "Performance in the rain depends on the conditions you're running in," adds Springer. "The heavier the rain, the more likely your performance will suffer.” She suggests going into your run with the expectation that you might not perform as well as usual. “Your body will still reap the benefits of the run even in the tougher than normal conditions," she further adds. How To Make Running In The Rain More Enjoyable? "Running in the rain is a different experience — it's something new, and the variety alone makes it more exciting," says Aaron Forrest, Boston Marathon Finisher and a certified coach for Gixo. "It's nothing to be afraid of, and with a little preparedness, you might even look forward to the raindrops." Running in the rain will constantly keep you cool, so that counts as an added benefit. "I actually ran faster in the crazy rain/wind storm this year compared to last year's marathon, likely because my heart rate was lower throughout the workout. The heart has to work harder to cool the body in hot temperatures," Forrest explained. "Sure, you need a little more mental toughness, and it feels hardcore — but who doesn't want to feel a little more hardcore?" This is true. So, if you also want to get the same experience, this is how you can enjoy your run in the rain: Accept The Fact That You Are Going To Get Wet Let us be a little practical here. If you are planning on running in the rain, it is a given that you are going to get wet. So rather than crying a river, simply embrace it. You are not going to the office where you have to worry about your clothes getting wet or your shoes getting soggy. So, drop down all your worries and enjoy the run with your whole heart. "I run in the rain quite often," Shaun Bohnsack, director of product, Nature's Gym Category at Merrell, says. "Living in Michigan, we have great fall weather, and that leads to some fun rainy (and sometimes snowy) runs. If I'm going out for a short run on the trail and it's not too cold, a lot of times, I will just embrace the rain. Run in a long-sleeve, lightweight shirt, shorts, and shoes that drain well," he further adds. Content Director of RunRepeat, Paul Ronto, says that you must skip on the rain jacket if you are running in the rain, which is quite contrasting to what a non-runner might expect. "When you head out for a run in the rain, you are going to get wet — own it. All a rain jacket is going to do is help you overheat, and odds are, you'll be carrying it or tying it around your waist before the end of your run," he adds. "Instead, layer correctly to ensure you are warm enough but not trapping in heat." Quit The Cotton Cotton is pretty quick in absorbing water. This means when you do get wet, which in fact, you will, the water will be hanging onto the clothes, and all together, the entire experience will be highly soggy. "Anyone who's ever gotten wet in cotton knows that it doesn't feel good," suggests Gillian Goerzen, who is a health coach and a personal trainer living on the "Wet Coast." "Not only will you be more prone to chafing because the wet, cold fabric sticks to your skin — you'll be more likely to chill. It sounds funny, but technical wool is actually fantastic because it doesn't feel cold and soggy when wet." Ronto further suggested that materials like polyester or merino wool have thermal properties in them, which work even when they get drenched. This makes them considerably warmer and a better choice of fabric for running in the rain. "As the saying goes, there's no bad weather, only bad gear," Mirna Valerio, Merrell Ambassador and ultra runner, further adds. "If you have the right gear for running in rougher weather, you and rain can be friends." A Baseball Cap Is A Hit If you wear contact lenses or glasses, a baseball cap is particularly helpful to protect your eyes while running in the rain. "I'm a contact lens wearer, and there is pretty much nothing worse than rain in the eyes and irritated contacts," Goerzen adds. "Hats rock in the rain — contact lenses or not," Ronto suggests. "It won't keep your head dry, but it will keep some of the rain out of your eyes, making it easier to see." Make sure that the cap is of polyester or wool, as a standard baseball cap will hold the water and get soggy. Try To Fetch A Good Pair Of Socks The ankle cotton socks that you may have gotten at half the price from Target may have been a great deal, but they are not joining you while you go for a run in the rain. "It's time to bust out your heavy-duty socks because if your feet ain't happy… Well, you know the saying, "Good socks are worth the investment!" says Goerzen. She has a partial opinion about the wool running socks and suggests that the no-cotton tip is particularly important when we speak of socks. Waterproof Shoes Are Not Compulsory While for some, a waterproof shoe may seem like a must-have while running in the rain; however, that is not the case. "If you're a roadrunner, a waterproof shoe can go a long way in keeping your feet dry," Goerzen says. "But if you're a trail runner, I'd personally recommend skipping the waterproof shoes. You'll more than likely come upon giant puddles you can't always avoid or small creeks. Consider that once the water is in, it needs a route out." Grab On That Good Old Vaseline Chafing is your ultimate enemy from becoming the total baddie when running in the rain. While you may have just upgraded yourself to become a rain runner, you have to pay the price too- burning raw flesh! "Think about adding some petroleum jelly like Vaseline to areas like where your socks end on your ankles, under your armpits, and on your bra straps. Nothing ends a run quicker than hot spots and raw skin," Ronto suggests. Change The Way You Look At Things To be able to run in the rain, you first have to change how you look at it. Instead of being gloomy and lazy, please take it as an opportunity to explore the idea of running in the rain. "Your focus should be on your run, how you feel, and the results," suggests Andrew Nunez, LA-based Barry's Bootcamp; running coach. "See the rain as a tool and focus on how it can help you during your run by cooling you down as you clock in at the pace you're striving for." Wrapping Up Running in the rain is one of the most wholesome experiences that you may ever get. The moment you stop seeing rain as an obstacle, it becomes way more manageable for you to run in the rain. However, you must always be cautious when you are going out for a run in the rain. Try to stay away from muddy roads or slippery areas. Also, make sure you are not among the ones that quickly catch a cold. Running in the rain, in that case, might end up being problematic for you.
